Canada’s Big 3 telecom firms will get 2 years to cut rates by 25%

So basically, the Federal Government just threatened the big cellphone providers to slash their prices by 25% to smaller data packages (between 2GB and 6GB), and if that doesn't happen, they'll use the CRTC (the regulatory board for telecommunication) to make sure they won't have access to new broadcast band that will become available (5G).

That's a bit heavy handed IMO, but any consumer in Canada is going to be happy to hear that!! Plans up here are ridiculously expensive, especially from the "Big 3".

I'm not a fan of homework. If you're stuck home, you're stuck to rest, not study. I approve of nearly taking it down. DEMOCRACY!!!

Also, what kind of authoritarians would assign homework during a f#cking plague! Oh, China... Of course.

You almost did it, You crazy sons of bi***

    TLDR:

Wuhan,China has been the epicenter for the recent Virus outbreak COVID-19 & The region has been on lock-down since the terrifying outbreak , a good majority of people were put under forced quarantine, some videos from the region showing that government forces locking people inside & taking risky people out to be quarantined.Schools are suspended until further notice. With many workplaces also shut.

in a nutshell  , people were enforced under quarantine to isolate & decrease the spread of the virus which meant kids were at home, forced to work & study from home. this meant a hike in online tutoring for kids. one of the apps that has been used by schools towards assigning homework & other work related comms was developed from Alibaba group called the DingTalk, it's a telecommuting application which during Chinese new year became the most downloaded app on China’s app stores & raised in popularity. so people started using it widely for all forms of communication like other SM apps. it's an enterprise collaboration app that lets you have group audio/video/text interaction with a preset contacts. can be used for both personal & professional use.

teachers were using this app to set kids time assigned homework online so they were working at home even under quarantine. it is reported that an estimate of 50 million students and 600,000 teachers use this app throughout China.

the app uses clock in & clock out features, which uses time framed access from users like employees or students logging in & logging out for sessions at given hours, being counted as work.  if allowed it uses facial recognition or fingerprint to confirm that a specific person is the one that's using it & the work is not being done by some other, it also is one of the first Chinese apps to have obtained the ISO/IEC 27001:2013 standard. Data are encrypted at SSL/TLS security standards. so a very secure app people trust .

So the kids there who already pissed off with the chaos happening in the society thought about getting rid of the homework burden, Collectively the kids in the region came up with an ingenious plan & figured out if the app is downvoted & reviewed negatively in the App store in a massive collective manner , it will be put under suspension or be removed for review. thereby getting rid of the online tutoring for weeks. With viral speed, tens of thousands of schoolchildren reportedly began rating the DingTalk chat app with one-star reviews, knowing enough bad ratings would see it kicked off the App Store. The homework app's rating reportedly plummeted overnight from 4.9-stars to 1.4. but unluckily the app still held on without being removed. but the reviews got so bad developer had to to step in via social media to ask to stop what they were doing.

    app post begging for stars.

    ios appstore one star reviews.

So what do you think about this? post your thoughts down below. i think it's somewhat brilliant co-ordination to get rid of a common problem.

    ?
When asked about that in their paper:
So it might just be that Intel "funded" one of the students and not the research itself...
But overall, we have no real way of knowing and the wording may be vague exactly as to give them a "way out".

Still, it's a conflict of interest and makes it dubious at best that this comes out right after the new flaw in Intel CPUs was released to the public.

We mostly made fun of Intel because all the vulnerabilities basically negated all the edge they had. If it was fixable with almost no performance difference, it's not really an issue. Also issue is with older platforms that will never receive any updates. Which is also the case here. Unless Microsoft will be able to patch it with microcode updates.

God damn it, ruining the joke with facts. Side note wasn't supposed to be true, oh well roll with it.

    Edit:
Also it's not exactly surprising, Intel funds security research and that funding isn't really tied to a specific thing. Funding sources are made out to be a bigger deal than they really are, most of the time.

This one is my kids rig, it’s an x58 rig with a Xeon x5690 es. I’ve had this setup since 2009. It’s kind of a hodgepodge of parts. That PSU is ancient, but was newish when I retired it.. I needed 2x 8 pin power for my 580 MP, that one only has 2x6. The mixed ram works ok, the 970 runs at 1405 out of the box. It’s not a bad setup if I’m honest. I don’t clock it much anymore because it’s for the kids and it’s fine, and it chews power, though not so much since I retired my 580s.

Not super retro, but this mobo is from 2009:

Dropped with the 1st gen of the Core i series (this is a Revision V1.0 so indeed a 2009 board), though I will be running... probably an X5675, which IIRC is from 2011. GPUs are much more recent (2013), but they match the theme so:
