Bryan-10EC got a reaction from RevGAM in Sometimes my M.2 drives are not recognized and I get a Bios boot loop. Only fixed with a power cycle.
Update. I'm not sure what made the original Sabrent SSD glitch out which is why I added another 2tb nvme m.2 drive, but I may have found a reason for the weird behavior with both SSDs in.
The EFI partition was still on the Sabrent drive and not on the same drive as my windows install. (because I guess the Sabrent was still installed when I installed my Kingston 2TB, and it somehow still read the partition when I installed Windows again on the new SSD even though it wouldn't boot from the Sabrent?? confused, I am)
I just fixed all that with this: https://www.tenforums.com/installation-upgrade/52837-moving-recreating-efi-partition.html
Fingers crossed- this helps resolve the issue.
But it's something to check if somebody has similar issues.
But then again, I have no idea if that would even cause an issue like what I was having.
Anybody here know if having the EFI part on another drive than the main OS would cause an issue?
I noticed it because I wanted to wipe the Sabrent and use it as a 2nd drive for just my games. Damn games are big today.
It had started working again so I was dual booting to access something I had on the old OS drive...

Bryan-10EC got a reaction from cretsiah in XBOX360 controller scaled setup on PC question. Is this even possible?
Ok, I know it's a sin to FPS game on PC with a controller, but I have my reasons.
(let's just say I am old and my fingers don't move fast and accurate enough on a keyboard)
Gaming with the controller is great for movement, but it absolutely sucks for accurate aiming (in games without aim assist).
If you turn the sensitively all the way down so you have the best chance of accurate aiming, then your fastest movement is January molasses slow.
Q: Are there any tools, tricks, hacks, voodoo chants that allow user defined scaled sensitively?
I want the right stick to be the lowest sensitivity when I barely move it, but max when I move it to the extremes.
IDK why this isn't already something that exists in ALL controllers (on ALL platforms) that you can adjust because there doesn't seem to be a reason not to allow it other than stonks.
Any help is appreciated (so I can play Battlebit and actually get more kills than deaths)
    Thanks for reading this.

Bryan-10EC got a reaction from Mitko_DSV in Quitting PC gaming due to not being able to get a newest gen GPU - what??
Moore's Law/Higher powered modern hardware can easily make game developers lazy (and just programmers in general), so I totally understand the desire to always have new high tier hardware for best gameplay. The fact that games with cartoony graphics like Fartnight or Borderblands 3 play like garbage on midrange systems from when they initially released should be an embarrassment for the industry.
We shouldn't need 5000 watt supercomputers to run even a modern game.
The move to powerful game engines made general game development easier, but can also add lots of uneeded overhead if not properly optimized.

    Same.
My year old now budget 3060 ti 5600X system still works better than expected even without using upscaling tech.
I can only guess this is just more of the "If you can't run it 120 fps at 4k on ultra quality then you might as well be playing on console" pc elitist crap.
(Even though most don't even have a monitor that can do that anyway)
Sh!tty people are always looking for ways to sh!t on others.
We need to enjoy what we have and stop focusing so much on what we don't have.
    Life is better that way.

As far as I know, this board is used by NZXT and CyberPower. The easiest way to find a BIOS update is through CyberPower's website :

    Scam.
They should not ask for that info.
And they only give out free stuff to existing customers if you add a service.
Most companies don't give two shatners about existing customers.
All special deals are aimed at getting new customers.

Ok.. I posted.. then edited... then thought again.
I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I would bet real money to monopoly money that the PCI-e x16 slot on that motherboard does not provide 75 watt PCI-e slot power.
My 240 watt PSU Lenovo M73 slim only provides 40 watts per the Lenovo model spec sheet.
    https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd029601-detailed-specifications-for-thinkcentre-m73-small-form-factor
I use it for older games fwiw.
Now it does have a 4GB XFX RX 550 in it now I got stupid cheap because fan stopped working. I didn't expect it to work since another 50 watt card would not, but it did. Must not pull as much power on boot.
But your computer power supply is just 180 watts.
What was the PCI-e 16x slot for?
    Networking cards?
    NVMe card?
Based on that.. a 2GB Gt 1030 might be the only option that works (30 watts) and is significantly better than your IGPU.
Wait... you have two sticks of ram?
Note the IGPU uses system ram and if you have just single channel (one stick) and only 8 GB.. that could actually be causing your bottleneck.
Though running into a ram bottleneck causes massive stuttering more than just low FPS.
Looks like you can have two sticks up 8 GB for 16 GB total.

Bryan-10EC got a reaction from da na in Video idea for a super cool entirely new way to cool PCs far better than any existing solution, ready for super power hungry hot next generation tech
Refrigerators are good at keeping a small well insulated space cool.
Think about it- refrigerators kick on and off all the time just to keep that highly insulated space cool without an active heat source inside.
They are designed to be efficient at just that.
There is no way they are powerful enough to offset an actual heat source.
If we have hit the bottom of what's possible with node shrinkage, then it's time to rethink the hardware basics if we need more performance- be it moving away from the bloated X86 CPU architecture, to even unloading some work to specialized remote cloud servers or even a return to coprocessors so you can streamline the system to what you actually need.
It's insane to think that a good PC will need 1500 watt power supplies.
Or we could just cool the PC with water and use that water in an enclosed steam engine system to create power.

While the Variomatic was the first successful CVT, it was not the first continuously variable transmission.
See the Lambert friction transmission (patented 1904).
Basically a large metal friction disc was spun by the engine and a drive wheel was pressed against it at a 90 degree angle.
Depending on where the drive wheel was against the drive wheel, it gave a different drive ratio to the rear wheels.
Move the drive wheel past the center to the other side and you had reverse (something modern belt CVTs can't do - they still need a reverse gear).
I think this basic design was also used in many farm tractors and possibly other equipment.

FWIW- I ran across some posts elsewhere about FX AMD and Windows 10- basically that any Windows 10 builds after version 2004 run very sluggish. So "working" and "usable" are two different things.

I apologize in advance if I missed something obvious.

Ok, I have been trying to trouble shoot a coworkefriend 's cheap refurbished Dell (an OptiPlex 790 tiny) with an I5-2400s iirc- he had it upgraded at local shop with 16 GB gamer ram (waste of money on this thing- but it was bought in 2020 when everybody was grabbing cheap PCs and laptops for WFH and they were scarce).
He uses it to remote desktop to his work office PC using Cisco (our work firewalls are brutal).
It will BSoD after 25-30 minutes or so.
Originally I fully disassembled and cleaned, swapped to an SSD with fresh 10 pro install (had to use command prompt to install off usb thumb drive and I forgot how. lol) and redid the thermal paste (it was plaster) and thought that would fix it since very tiny and CPU overheating could cause a BSoD.
Even added a tiny heatsink to the exposed chipset that was right under the power supply.
    -
He said it still does it.
    -
This time he added it gives some type of chipset error (he said it probably did it before but he failed to notice- great).
So I checked for updates - there was a bios and some other ones I did.
Ran the thing for three hours while running cinebench and playing multiple YT videos and surfing the web and downloading- all at once.
It actually stayed cool (enough) and did it fine. Actually took it much better than expected.
They really did a great job of engineering E-waste.
    -
He said it still does it. ffs.

So I decided to see exactly what CPUs (and thus chipsets) are supported by Windows 10- focusing on an actual hardware compatibility issue.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/windows-processor-requirements

On the desktop Intel CPUs.. just 6th gen or newer.
But for some reason AMD goes all the way back to 2011 and the 1st FX CPUs (2011!) and even the crap E1 series APUs that could barely match top Pentium 4 performance in some programs.

    So two questions:
Do these lists actually mean anything? (Is using Windows 10 on CPU not listed possibly going to cause problems like I described?)
If so, why the heck would the AMD CPUs have better support since they were pushing power hungry cores over good IPC back then? (I still have FX and Phenom systems and am currently using a 5600x PC, so don't see this as AMD bashing. Also have Intel systems including a HT P4 lol.)
    -
If all this does matter, now I wonder how all these sites can sell "refurbished" old Dell and Lenovo business desktops with Windows 10 when those CPUs/chipsets do not have fully support.
I guess I could redo my old FX-8350 system for him to use (if this list is accurate and the cause of the BSoD). Maybe under-volt it and swap out the dual 6950s for a PCI-e slot power only RX card so it doesn't burn down his house. Lol. (I seem to hoard used cheap PC part finds fwiw)
Still seems odd to me that a compatibility issue would take 30 mins of use to cause a BSoD though.
    Thanks for reading this rant/question.

Bryan-10EC got a reaction from TechyBen in YouTube Implements COPPA For Creators After Being Fined by FTC
I edited my previous post, but let me post it again.
    .
    This is about data collection.
Basically viewer data collection is one way to make money on the internet, so the FTC is saying anything that could possibly be seen by a "under 13" needs to have the data collection thing turned off.
Maybe we just need some way to sort the kids out on the ISP end versus punishing the creator/site for being view-able and collecting data?
    .
Also, youtube is auto-clicking content as "for kids" to have the data collection turned off for viewer.
That protects the content creator from COPPA, but also reduces the ad revenue (by 19%).
So this isn't the end of the world, but does suggest maybe we need some sort of ISP side age marker for browsing limitiations.
