Score List for each manufacturer
Test conclusion finds that “on average 87.7% of Android devices are exposed to at least one of 11 known critical vulnerabilities.”
Data for the study collected by group’s “Device Analyzer” app, which has been free on the play store since May 2011
Study collected Android version and build number info from over 20,400 devices
Study concludes that most of the blame sits with OEMs
The Group states that “the bottleneck for delivery of updates in the Android ecosystem rests with the manufacturers, who fail to fix critical vulnerabilities.”
Study found that Google’s Nexus devices were the most secure with a FUM score of 5.2 out of 10
Google and OEMs have committed to a monthly security update program, but it is for devices less old than two years (Nexus, three years)
Most of Android sales are not flagship devices, so this is a problem
Until Google re-architects Android to support centralized, device-agnostic updates, there’s no solution to security problems

Apple outsourced production of A9 processors for the new iPhones to two companies, TSMC and Samsung
Samsung’s version is 96 square milimetres, TSMC’s is slightly larger at 104.5 millimeters
Shouldn’t affect performance…. But some owners are claiming otherwise
YouTuber Austin Evans tested both, and saw TSMC’s hardware saw a longer battery life
Evans used an app called “Lirum” that identifies which processor a phone has
He pulled number for reference
Samsung = N71AP, N66AP TSMCs = N71MAP (6s), N66MAP (6s Plus)
App pulled temporarily due to compatibility issues, is being put back up
Apple stated “Certain manufactured lab tests which run the processors with a continuous heavy workload until the battery depletes are not representative of real-world usage, since they spend an unrealistic amount of time at the highest CPU performance state. It’s a misleading way to measure real-world battery life.”
Apple says that these stress tests aren’t the best way to compare
Another YouTuber Jonathan Morrison did real world testing, and saw there was differences between the two
Did real world tests, 4k video, uploading video, Geekbench and at the end the Samsung iPhone was at 55% and TSMC iPhone was at 62%

YouTube Demonstration
At press event Oct 14th, Tesla announced version 7.0 of the Model S software, new build enabling the car’s self-driving features
Capabilities were first announced last year
Necessary sensors were added to all Model S cars since last September
Tesla needed additional time to flesh out the algorithms, which they have been testing
7.0 released to US, will proceed to Europe and Asia in the coming weeks pending approval
Model X shouldn’t be far behind
Features:
Autosteer maintains speed and distance from the car ahead
Auto Lane Change moves the car to another lane by tapping the turn signal
Collision Warning
Autopark, continuously scans for available parking around the car
Automatic Emergency Steering
Side Collision Warning, uses sensors to nudge the car away from danger, while alerting the driver
Elon Musk called out Autosteer as a “beta” feature, and for users to keep their hands on the steering wheel at all times
Keeps liability out of Tesla’s control, since they told users not to take their hands off the wheel
Musk said “If there is an accident, the driver of the car is responsible”
Version 7.1 will add ability to send car off to a garage, and come back and pick you up when needed
Tesla is continuously uploading real-world sensor data from 7.0-equipped vehicles to home base
Utilizes four sensor types on the car: forward radar, forward-facing camera, 360-degree ultrasonic sensors, and a GPS combined with Tesla’s own high-resolution navigation maps
Musk calls it “fleet learning technology”
Functionality will improve each passing week, even without a firmware update, since the car is always accessing and improving Tesla’s high-res maps

MAXXHEW reacted to HalGameGuru in Microsoft to buy AMD?! [updated]
As for the OP. Another interesting take on a Microsoft backed acquisition of AMD is the LiquidVR and HoloLens endeavors. If I were to take my earlier supposition that Fury is really meant to be a proof of concept for future VR support, and both companies are acutely aware of and interested in that burgeoning market, as a way to maximize saturation, growth, share, and profit acquiring a hardware focused company with its finger on the pulse to help jump start your own VR and AR developments. Imagine the confluence of DX12, LiquidVR, AMD GPU/APU/CPU developments, with HoloLens, and foundational support and access to one of the biggest end user and enterprise software giants there is.
IF the market for VR in fact turns out to be as big and rapidly expansive as some analysts believe.

PayPal fined $7.7M for allowing illegal payments

US Treasury Department says PayPal failed to adequately screen and prevent transactions
includes a $7,000 transaction from someone listed by US gov’t as involved in proliferation of weapons of mass destruction
PayPal said they had “voluntarily” reported to the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (Ofac) certain payments between 2009 and 2013
delays in scanning allowed some prohibited payments to be completed
“Since then, we’ve taken additional steps to support compliance with Ofac regulations
one case involved Kursad Zafer Cire, named by US State Dept in 2009 as being linked to weapons of mass destruction
PayPal reportedly processed 136 transactions to or from account registered to his name
other payments involved goods and services going to and from Cuba, Sudan, and Iran
according to Treasury Department, nearly 500 transactions worth almost $44,000 had potentially violated sanctions that ban US companies from doing business with individuals or organisations on a blacklist
Elon Musk: “Burning fossil fuels is the dumbest experiment in history, by far”
Source 1: linustechtips.com/elon-musk-burning-fossil-fuels… OP: Johners
Source 2: archive.today/2zsHv
was in a conversation with Cosmos host Neil deGrasse Tyson
“If we don’t find a solution to burning oil for transport, when we run out of oil, the economy will collapse and society will come to an end.” Musk
“If we know we have to get off oil no matter what, we know that is an inescapable outcome, why run this crazy experiment of changing the chemical composition of the atmosphere and oceans by adding enormous amounts of CO2 that have been buried since the Precambrian Era? That's crazy. That's the dumbest experiment in history, by far.”
Tyson sounded surprised: "Can you think of a dumber experiment?" he asked Musk.
"I honestly cannot. What good could possibly come of [staying on oil]," Musk said.
of course Musk has a vested interest in clean energies becoming the norm based on his current investments and companies, but I think it’s safe to say that he is very knowledgeable in this area
difficult to make change in the US because of the influence the oil giants have on the politics and economy
Dissecting G-Sync and FreeSync - How the Technologies Differ
Source 1: linustechtips.com - dissecting g sync and freesync how the t OP: Werto165
Source 2: pcper.com - Dissecting G Sync and FreeSync How Technologies Differ
“it’s more than just a branding issue”
40-144Hz both offer “pure variable frame rate” where the refresh rate of the display matches the game’s frame rate
above 144fps both go into a V-Sync state (as long as you enable V-Sync in FreeSync)
below 40fps they shift
FreeSync keeps the refresh rate static as frame rate dips below 40Hz
causes a combination of stutter and frame tearing (if V-Sync is off)
G-Sync starts doubling refresh rate and inserting duplicate frames starting at around 37 FPS
continues until game frame rate hits 19/20 FPS where a third frame is inserted and refresh rate is increased again
effectively G-Sync has no bottom window for variable refresh and produces the same result as if the display was going to the lower refresh rates without artifacting or flickering
possible that AMD could implement a similar doubling algorithm for FreeSync at the driver level without the need for an external module
Radeon GPUs have the ability to send out a duplicate frame based on what frame rate it is rendering at
this would require a great deal of cooperation between panel vendors and AMD

MAXXHEW reacted to W-L in Whole Room Water Cooling Part 5b
In Canada we have a lot of inspections and things to go through as they would in the US for electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other things such as for seismic activity in BC. As for doing work yourself as long as it gets inspected and checked off by someone licensed and you know what your doing it's a good to go in most situations. For sales I think it may be a bit easier going here where if you try to sell your home a home inspector or real estate agent here will not go to the city to check for permits pulled on the property, that is placed on the responsibility of the home owner or person purchasing the home.
In Linus's case I doubt any of this really applies since it's a cooling system that's so unique, but if he were to sell the home he's probably take it out before putting it on the market since most purchasers will probably be freaked out by what they did or what it's for.
