You think a 290 will allow me to get 60 fps while recording (with Dxtory) on 1080p until the 3xx series comes out? Doesn't need to be max settings, just able to run at 60+fps while I record.

game? and if dxtory is the same as fraps, more than likely yes.

i max out bf4 and get anywhere from 70-110fps depending on map.

if you have a 970 it'll more than likely be the same performance, i've used 3.5gb of vram at 3800x1800 in crysis 3 on ultra, wasnt very playable at 25fps (with crossfire it would be).

I (and would say most people) certainly have more reason for a 4gb graphics card then 16gb of ram i see everywhere but anyone running 1080p and wanting 50+fps on ultra would normally be okay with an r9-270 which is what its aimed for, thats half an r9-290.

the 7970/280x is designed for 1440p and 290(x) for 4k, sure not playable with the most demanding gmaes on ultra but at 4k you probably dont need it.

I.. like most people am at 1080p (42in tv) but will likely jump 1440p altogether with 4k on the horizon and for not much more, when I eventually get a 4k screen I'll either pick up another r9-290 or more than likely have a 3xx series amd card because I can get the majority of the cost of my 290 back, the cost was so low that after 2-3months it wont have depreciated much, if you got a 980 or 780ti for £450 and wanted to sell it 2 months later the resale price is much lower purely because noones going to pay £350 (or £400) for one second hand when for an extra £100 (or £50) someone can get a new one brand new. £190 for an msi gaming r9-290 4g with another 10 months warranty, id do it (if i needed it).

How fitting that they decided to destroy the worst non-reference cooler for the 290.

It's actually not bad at all, especially if you consider that it was amongst the cheapest (not sure now with all the crazy discounts around but still). I have one and I never had the issues people claim this card has. No vrm overheating, no artifacting. I think the first batch was bad and then it was fixed or something. It's still better than the xfx one or so I hear ^^

Strange. With the original fan curve it never went over 85c (not the best ever, but definitely within spec), then I decided to make a custom curve (I don't care about noise and I use closed heaphones) and now it never goes over 70c at 70% fan speed.
