    S: His wife
John Bain, also known as TotalHalibut or Totalbiscuit has passed away this morning as confirmed by his wife, Genna Bait on Twitter. While John was a controversial person, he was widely known throughout the gaming industry and he was a pinnacle moment for consumer advocacy.
Earlier in the week his wife reported that there was some issues with his breathing and today, she confirmed his passing.
My thoughts on the matter: I'm just really sad after seeing this tweet I feared the worst for him. Literally speechless
    FUCK CANCER
Final tweet from his account issued by Genna

Rest in peace you glorious man.

andrew2165 reacted to WMGroomAK in Intel ME can be disabled due to US Govt requirements
Researchers with Positive Technologies has found a hidden bit of firmware code inside Intel's Management Engine (ME) that when flipped will disable the ME after it has booted up the main processor.  This little bit of information comes in a timely fashion as there have been several severe security holes discovered in the ME that can cause an attacker to take over the system.

Of course, there is a warning associated with this that this exploit hasn't been thoroughly tested and may damage or destroy your computer, however, if it is properly implemented, provides a promising way to potentially get around the Intel ME.  It is also interesting that if the response that Positive Technologies received from Intel is true, then they implemented this at the request of OEMs who provide products to the US Government.

andrew2165 reacted to StarWarsCentral in Which do you prefer? CPU or GPU bottleneck?
This is so ridiculously dependant on what hardware you've got, any bottleneck is a bad thing, especially when it negates an expensive graphics card,
But in this case there isn't really a correct answer because there are no set parameters for the discussion.

    An i7 with a 8800gts will suck.
But a 1080 on an FM1 apu will also suck.

I'd probably say having an average processor is more important than having a ridiculous GPU, but again, entirely speculative without parameters.
I would say this is something Linus should explore, but this is more something that Scrapyard wars already actively brings forwards, and its proven that a mixture is always better than topheavy either side bottlenecking.

So the takeaway to all of it is focus on getting a best all round system. as per usual

PUBG broke the 500k simultaneous player record last Friday, now being the second most played game overall, just behind DOTA but ahead of CS:GO.

    Via pcgameshardware.de
    Rough Translation:

I believe pubg is the fastest game to reach this point and with its' still soaring popularity it might break even more records soon. Another interesting aspect are extremely steep prices for cosmetic items on the pubg community market now with players paying three-figure prices sometimes. This is comparable to cs:go knife skins and similar but it is impressive in regard to how quickly the game took off and reached this level when compared to other popular titles while still being early access.

Edit: this list includes only steam games, thanks @Sauron

I get it. It is scary not to be in control. It is scary that someone might be planning horrible things and there is no way for the government to access the discussion. However, this is not new. Modern encryption algorithms have been around since the 70's. Modern governments have better capabilities for surveillance than ever. More importantly when there is a weak point in security someone (probably not a good guy) will exploit it. Then the normal people will suffer.

    Hi all,

I feel as though the forum tends to see a decent number of questions regarding thermal paste:

    Which ones are the best?
    How do I apply it?
    What about Liquid metals?
What about all the factors I didn't even know existed?

Toms Hardware Guide did a pair of large reviews several years ago and the results of which determined my personal choice of thermal paste being Noctua NT-H1 due to a combination cost and performance.
Well, The guide has been updated and now showcases many newer products and still contains a great guide to give anyone a shot at picking a good product and applying it correctly.
