Yeah probably. I think his best bet is the 960 because he doesnt need to upgrade anything else.

Hey ekuhlmann23,   The plan seems pretty good.  I would suggest to check thoroughly the HDD (in case you are reusing it from a previous build) with a diagnostic utility to make sure the drive is healthy and safe to store your data. I would recommend using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=w0TeHU    The rest of the plan seems pretty good. you can go with a lower wattage PSU if you want to save some more money.   Captain_WD.

    Hi
If you went with this SSD you would save about 10$ with an extra 8GB: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/a-data-internal-hard-drive-asp600s3128gmc
The GPU is the best you can get for the money.

I was in the same exact boat is you. I just got the cooler master 212 evo for my i3 4160 and my temps never go about 36 degrees Celsius while folding. But if  does bother you just enable it while the system is at idle.

Yes, you could. But that CPU is already very efficient. And it would reduce stability. (Would not recommend that)
If your motherboard supports CPU Voltage control with the BIOS.

Wow its quite amazing the lows Nvidia fanboy's will go to try and sway customers in Nvidias direction.

Their has never and never will be a advantage to using intel CPU's or Chipsets with Nvidia instead of AMD GPU's.

Nvidia makes fine GPU's and so does AMD either brand will work 100% fine on either a Intel CPU or AMD cpu based system.

Their is always CPU bottle-necking to worry about but other then that the gpu's do not have brand loyalty issues.

Always read REAL reviews and choose your GPU's based off Price / Performance unless you have a specific preference and cant be swayed by reality.(like fanboy's often are).

I really do tire of the miss-information that swirls around Nvidia fan forums its kind of sickening.

For that processor, probably maximum you'd want to go, maybe dial down a little. Just don't get above 70C.

you have to use the base clock. that is the best way to overclock. newer intel chips just don't support it very well.

Best bang for the buck IMO. Pretty upgradable. R9 290 + overclockable i5 is a great combination. You can add an SSD later, get up to 32GB RAM, get a 5th gen processor if you needed. You should buy an aftermarket cooler to overclock though. This includes a Micro Center CPU + Mobo combo for $250.

Great build. It goes with more value oriented parts but still manages to get an i7 4790K and 16GB of RAM. This would be a much better workstation and still get excellent gaming performance.

Do they look a like? Yes. Does it matter? No. This kind of thing will always happen in this industry and it will keep happening. This time around is Samsung taking inspiration from Apple's design, and next time it might be the other way around. This is not something that happens only in hardware but in software. iOS takes inspiration from Android and vice versa. If everytime a look alike appears everybody goes nuts sueing everybody then the industry will never move forward.

Not really. The cheapest 290 (PCS+, which I consider to be the best 290) right now is 270 bucks, and the cheapest 970 is 310 (a zotac one, which I do not trust as much) and 320 for the msi or evga one.

For $400 the Moto X is definitely a great choice but IMO the OPO is still better feeling in the hand, leather or wood might feel nice but it's nowhere near as good of a texture to have on the back of a phone as the OnePlus's Sandstone back. The OPO also has the benefit of better battery life. If you can find the features of the Moto X useful like Google voice search when the phone is off then go for the Moto X, otherwise the OnePlus One gets my vote.

100 and under: it aint worth it buying something for that price, you can almost double the performance with a couple more bucks
    100 - 200 price range: R9 270
    200 - 300 price range: R9 290
    300 - 400 price range: 970
    400 - 500 price range: 980

I think the 270 for 150 dollars is enough for your needs, although the 290 offers the best bang for your buck in my opinion and if you want to play more demanding games in the future or just want to use it for a long time without needing to upgrade you should really considering paying the $250 for the 290. It is a flagship card at a mid range price.

Unless you plan a major upgrade and an high-end graphics card for 1080p gaming you don't really need a core i5 CPU (R9 290/290X, GTX 780/780ti, GTX 970/980 or TITAN of any sort...)

The core i3 will feed strong GPU's all day long you don't really need an i5 if you go with a mid-range card like an R9 280/280X or GTX 760/960/770...
BTW your R7 240 is VERY VERY VERY WEAK compared to ANY of the mentionned GPU...even the R9 280 is more than 4 times as strong.

    Here iS R7 250 vs R9 280 (can't find R7 240 so..)

As you can...major improvements...and your i3-4150 will drive a card like that no problem.
