Absolute beast. If you plan on gaming 1440P or even 4K this is the way to go. For the CPU I chose the i5 because you do not need anything more for gaming. Performance is almost identical to the i7 4790K in gaming but the i7 will be faster if you do video editing or stuff like that. For the cooler I chose the h100i because it is a great all in one liquid cooler that will keep your CPU cool and quiet even when overclocking. This Gigabyte motherboard is great and can run your SLI configuration. If you do not like that one specifically, you can go with any other brand at that price point. Asus and AsRock are pretty good too. 8GB of RAM is enough for gaming. Plus, if you want you can upgrade to 32GB if you really need it. An SSD is a must in any modern computer, 250GB is enough for OS and essential programs plus 1TB for games and media. Video cards 2X Asus STRIX GTX 970 which will offer beastly performance in any gaming, especially in 1440P or 4K. For the case you should go with the S340 because is a great looking and functioning case for a pretty nice price. Lastly, a 750W 80+ Gold PSU to power everything.

Great build. It goes with more value oriented parts but still manages to get an i7 4790K and 16GB of RAM. This would be a much better workstation and still get excellent gaming performance.

The only thing I would change in that partslist is the CPU cooler. I read so many threads I thought when I was making this that this was the one tht said he would be doing minimal OC but the Hyper Evo would be able to do 4.2 GHz safely, and the max I read the i7 4790k should be OC'd is 4.4 GHz but maybe it can be pushed more safely (not with an air cooler though).

ugh this annoys me. a first time pc build should NEVER be above $850. the idea of a first build is to learn something  from it that can help you on your future builds. if you spend $1500 on your first build, what will you have learned. Its much smarter to spend your money more frugally, then upgrade as you go on. imagine what you could do with the 700$ you just saved on your pc, put it into stocks and double it? buy some new clothes? keep it in savings? well that's my 2 cents.

here is a perfectly good build that would run most games at 60fps 1080p

Agreed. Processor and GPU aside, an SSD belongs in every build over $600.

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.
