your using powerline, thats normal. Wired will give you the full speeds.

what you could also do for a lot cheaper is just go out and buy a prebuilt for around ~$150, then just replace the HDD with and SSD, and maybe add another 4gb of ram.

Increase the amount of your virtual memory, it could help out.

waterjug reacted to it_dont_work in Stock fan cpu overclocking?
Depends on the version of the stocvk cooler you've got, the older style with the copper slug in the bottom has a little oc headroom, the newer smaller cooler does as well but you'll also need really good case flow, both work better if you ziptie a 80mm case fan to to top.
Example:
The left is a 125tdp cooler from a 6100, the right is a 95tdp cooler from a 8300.
Just watch your temps, with hardware monitor and amd overdrive, overdrive will show you the thermal margin left, hardware monitor should show you socket temp on the board, keep the socket temp under 70c at max. use overdrive to determine the chips temp, you'll usually run out of thermal margin on the socket before the chip on fx 8 cores.
I think this is due to the way power delivery is setup and they use a load of power.

waterjug reacted to Master Disaster in Installing Windows! Help please
You must install from DVD or USB, installing from a HDD will not work. Get a 4GB flash drive and use the media creation tool to create your installer.
If you've got any other hard disks connected unplug them and leave only your Windows drive connected.
First off head into UEFI and make sure CSM (aka Compatibility Support Module) is Disabled. Enable fast boot and secure boot while you're there.
Next boot from the Windows 10 installer and at the partition screen press shift+f10 then enter the following commands one at a time (press enter after each)
Diskpart
Select disk 0
Clean
Convert GPT
Exit
Now close the command window and try the install and it should work.

waterjug got a reaction from malon in My motherboard has a family tree lol
Ok so I showed my friend, who isn't a total geek, my stuff that I was about to build my pc with. I was mentioning the motherboard that I got, and he made a joke asking who the fatherboard was. From there he made a family tree for my motherboard on a scrap of paper lying on my desk. So yeah, now my M5A 78L-M motherboard has an entire family tree behind it lol. yeah no point to this post, just felt like sharing this

waterjug got a reaction from LiquidGoo in How many cables i need in my psu?
As long as it says everything's compatible on pc part picker, It's good. But you always want a little bit higher wattage psu than you need to leave room for upgradability. But not too high otherwise your power bill might go up. Even if for some reason the cables aren't compatible with the stuff you got, you can always use an adapter.

waterjug reacted to Tedster in Static wrist band?
You want an anti-static wristband really (:
You're probably going to be okay without one, but it's always good practice. Also, attempts to protect yourself against static can sometimes be dangerous, I was once earthed properly and touched my GPU, felt a shock through my arm. The GPU and PCIE slot on the motherboard were dead.
