Build For Parents

Heavygun1450

Hey guys,

I was asked by my parents to build them a new PC. I have built my own gaming rig before so I have no problem at all with building it. I just need some help on selecting the parts. There budget for the desktop itself is $500. So far this is what i have come up with in Pcpartspicker. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9thKkT . It will be used for hobbyist work and general web browsing. First I picked the i3-6100 because its a very powerful dual core with hyperthreading and 4 threads and just using stock cpu cooler. Im also going to get them a SSD because i feel like that is very important to them to have a very responsive and speedy desktop. They dont need much space at all so im going to get only the 250gb version. Im also going to be going micro atx so the desktop is not very noticeable so i went with the cooler master elite 130. Also the PC needs to have WIFI as there is no ethernet. So i selected the Gigabyte-h170n that has built in wifi. Im going to be giving them my old gtx 770 that i have lying around as well because why not. What would you change to this parts list and does it look good?

[CPU: 4.3 GHZ I5-4670K] [MB: Gigabyte Z87-D3H] [RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1833 MHZ (8GB)]

Hi! I recommend a Pentium G4560 because it's got Hyperthreading, so it's in reality an i3 in disguise but costs only $75. Pair it up with a 200-series motherboard.

Also:

Changed the memory to a single 8GB stick so you can upgrade it later.

Changed the SSD to a bigger one.

Made budget room (for the big SSD) by changing the PSU to one that's cheaper. It's still great and fully modular.

I like it. Not sure about the SSD tho as I have never heard of it/used it. But everything else looks nice

Hynix is a really good brand, but don't go by brand. Take a look at the review.

what you could also do for a lot cheaper is just go out and buy a prebuilt for around ~$150, then just replace the HDD with and SSD, and maybe add another 4gb of ram.

That's true there are a couple options for cheaper that would give close to the same performance.
