No,no, no. Just no. I would look in the 60-120 US dollar range. Go on eBay and grab a Dell 1710 for 120 dollars and be on your way. EBay is your best friend for servers,

    Here's what I would do,

i would start by buying a meraki 48 port gigabit Poe switch and separate the tech caffe into a Vlan, if you don't know what a VLAN is, it's just a "Virtual LAN" . This would make it so the tech caffe would be transparent to your home and vice versa. Your current setup seems too complicated but good ideas.

No no no. This doesn't work. I've explained it a numerous amount of times to people on these forums.

CFstorm got a reaction from Donut417 in Looking for a repeater for home use.
My original suggestion indeed was to try a solution such as that because it works well for me; and sure, you can set the repeater with the same SSID but networking just doesn't work that way. @crystal6tak could also use something like Google Home's wifi with similar functionality. This was just a suggestion to him for what I would do. I would indeed stop using his current wifi setup and use what I suggested because it works fantastic for me.

Also what you said about setting something with the same SSID/Password is not true which leads me to believe you have never used one. If a device is connected to your router (A) and you have a repeater (B) then your device will not disconnect from A and switch to B because signal B is stronger. It will continue to use A until the signal is completely dropped.

The magic about mesh is that it routes the IP's of the interconnected devices to the nodes accordingly to several different things. Mesh is not just a repeater. There is some extra features that you are paying for.

Not necessarily true. You will just be stuck with a bad connection before your device drops it and switches to the other. This is not recommended; However, I would suggest using Ubiquity's gear. They have a mesh networking setup for only $89 per node. This setup is something I use and works very well. Mesh is a form of repeaters, but they are all "hard-wired" to your networking stuff via cable to give you the same speed on both sides of the house. Also, it will automatically manage the IP Addresses attached to them and reroute them accordingly. If you are in the US find them here:

I would also suggest @JackHubbleday 's idea but another solution is to use an enterprise grade router such as the Cisco 3725 or the Cisco 1921 and create a whole separate network through the routers settings. This is more expensive if you don't have a 3725 sitting around but just a suggestion if all else fails

MINT. Mint is a lot lighter weight for an older laptop. To install, simply go to mints sight, download the ISO, use a USB drive, and install it to there. Then, optionally with the files still on the old computer, insert the drive, and reboot. Make sure to click delete or F1 or something to get into the BIOS and choose the USB to boot to. Once your in, mint will give you instructions on how to install

Hello LTT! I decided to post this here because the main help I needed was to find a HUGE mother board with TONS of PCI slots.

So heres the story, I work as the IT of an engineering company and I am going to do a "10 gamers 1 CPU" type thing for the office. Can I have help with a pcpp list? Here's the budget, for each additionall workstation the computer can support, the budget goes up by $1000 USD. For example, 5 people- $5000 budget, 10 people- $10000 budget, thanks so much!

So I'm going to explain this in a metaphor. There's two oranges, one I see orange, and the other is more red. Underneath, they have the same structure, but there outside apperhence differs. I prefer the kbuntu desktop because it's almost like a Linux version of Windows 10. Also, it would be wiser to dual boot, because vms don't give you full control over your hardware.

Not really, most of the desktops you can install on arch you can get by themselves and are really Easley to install (Kubuntu (recommended)). Arch Linux is amazingly difficult. Linux mint is very customizable and I recommend it,

LINUX! I suggest Mint, Debian, or ubuntu for support. You'll have no viruses, no update restarts, etc. go with Linux. It's wat you do. If you don't do Linux, go with windows eight point one, it's less cluttered and less tracked. It has a lot of Windows ten features, but doesn't have bloat ware and spyware.

Hello, I was going through Facebook and saw a really cool video of someone using a video for their wallpaper, but upon closer inspection I found they were not running windows 10. I know for a fact that it is possible on Windows XP and Vista through Dreamscene, but I haven't seen anything for windows 10. Does anyone know if it is still supported? Thanks in advance for any suggestions and comments

The more frames you generate the closer your screen will be to what is actually happening on the server. And theoretically the less input lag you should have.

If you have a sixty hertz monitor and you get one frame for every refresh your image will always be about 1/60th of a second behind. If you monitor made 3 frames in that time though it would take the most recent frame reducing that delay to 1/180th of a second.
