Hello,

I have a problem and i need your help/ideas.

My grandpa just bought a tablet because "his pc didnt catch any wifi signal" i know it doesnt make any sense but yeah. Now i dont want him to have bought it for nothing, so i want to extend his wifi so it could reach the garage. They have a pretty big house so they would have to drill holes if they wanted to run cables anywhere. I can only try explaining where the main router is and where the signal needs to be. So. The main router is in the living room in the bottom right corner. On the right side is the kitchen(behind a wall) and on the bottom side(if you imagine he room as a blank square) is the front porch. Lets say 10-15 metres out of the front porch and 3 metres down is his garage. That spot is where he wants his wifi. Any ideas with low cost and low to none cables?

Any help or idea would be appreciated.

Can you elaborate?

Im not as much into networking as you may think...

Power line adapters use the electrical wiring in your walls to carry data. They can be very hit or miss depending on how old the wiring is, and how many circuit breakers the signal has to pass thru. You will plug one power line adapter in to your router and put another in a different location that could be hooked to a wireless AP. Now Im not going to lie this could be costly. Power Line adapters are not cheap. Plus power lines were never designed to carry data, so it could work for a while and quit randomly. If you have Coax in both locations you can look at MOCA adapters. They use the Coax to carry data and seem to work better. Again kinda expensive.

Also what @CFstorm is trying to point out, roaming between the router and the AP might not work. There are 3 standards for roaming and unless you have the exact same APs ran through out there is no guarantee you can get roaming. This means you will have to manually connect to each AP.

I dont live at their house so i i dont know exactly how old the wiring is, i only know its younger than me(im 20) and i dont know if the places are on the same phase or how its called.. and what are the ranges of this?

Not sure about the range of Power line as it varys based on quality of wiring and such. Moca is about 300 feet end to end.
