the current tech market is stupid anyways. a 12th gen i3 has the same number of cores and threads as a 7700K, and because of the newer architecture is basically as fast as that cpu.

imo unless you need top end performance the high end tech market makes no sense at all. a core i3 paired with a midrange gpu is nowhere near slow... most software just hasn't caught up to the rapid advancement in power at the high end.

sadly i doubt it, given that the Mac doesn't output the boot screen due to the gpu. still, this is much better than disconnecting drives etc as it should boot to macOS even with the Windows drive connected, since PRAM reset will simply reset the startup disk...

the alt key not working is a result of your aftermarket graphics card. you can still use it, just without a display output. what i mean is if you hold down alt, press an arrow key to select the other drive and then enter it'll work.

Ashley MLP Fangirl reacted to jiibus in Promoting AtlasOS is irresponsible
I can appreciate the sentiment of enabling people to use their old hardware for longer, but AtlasOS is not the way. The 2 main problems are:

It completely removes Defender and Updates. Source It disables Spectre & Meltdown mitigations. Source These are especially problematic because the target audience, people who want to extend the life of their old PC, are most likely going to use these PCs as their general purpose computing device on the internet because they don't have anything better. It is almost inevitable that they will get wrecked by malware somewhere down the line with the above "optimizations" in play.

Have you pulled the board out of the case? It's possible there's something behind the motherboard causing it to short out.

My idea of old computer: Core 2 duo E4300 / Athlon 64 X2 3800+, 4 GB RAM (stuff that is super old in tech's terms but still somewhat usable for the very basic stuff when you throw in the cheapest 120 gb SSD you can find)

LTT's idea of old computer: i5-7400 / 16 gb ram

    lmao

it's insanely stupid. i can't believe LTT would promote this. your system is plenty fast to run regular Windows. you're asking for trouble with Atlas for sure.

Rufus is a USB install creator > https://rufus.ie/en/

use another machine to download the Windows 11 ISO using the windows media creation tool > https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows11

then use rufus select the USB drive to use, select the windows ISO image and enable the bypass checkbox. then proceed to flash the USB. then you have a USB with windows 11 that should work to install on your pc.

^^Image taken from rufus website. that first checkbox should be ticked. Rest is optional to your liking.

just use Rufus and enable the bypass to force the install, Windows 11 is stupid and just doesn't wanna work sometimes.

Ashley MLP Fangirl reacted to DrMacintosh in iPad Pro broke again. What is the best tablet?
Given by the amount of drops you put your devices through, I would recommend a behavioral change before purchasing another tablet of any make or model. These things are thinner than phones, as a result even with a case they require some care. You wouldn't throw a glass slab on the ground, so why would you do that to an iPad which is basically the same thing?

Ashley MLP Fangirl got a reaction from Crunchy Dragon in Is this a normal CPU usage while gaming?
your cpu has 12 threads, that would be why. most games can use 4 threads, some 8. but 12 is uncommon. hence, the cpu is only being used for around 30% since it's using a third of those threads.

the advantage of this is that you can say watch a youtube video on your second monitor or have OBS running without impacting the game's performance, since you have cores to spare. the disadvantage is that very few applications can use all 12 threads at once.

as for the difference between the R9 380 vs the new card and it being lower i don't know the cause of that.

@kapac7adon't listen to this. as i explained a 6-core 12-thread cpu will almost never see 100% or even close to that usage while running a game, because most games simply arent coded to use 12 threads. the reason for that is if they code it for 12 threads, it'll harm performance on cpu's with less than that. game developers want the most amount of people to play their games and 4-core cpu's are still very common.

that's misreporting. if you look at the cpu's power and temperature readings you can see it's obviously doing a lot of work. the program just isn't reporting it for some reason. but it wouldn't idle at 80c...

that's a perfectly fine computer still. don't believe everything LTT says. as long as it does what you need it to do it's fine.

fun fact, Windows 11 runs smoothly on my (overclock but still) 4670K. i've seen Core 2 Duo machiens running windows 10 relatively fine too, as long as they have more than 4GB of ram.

UEFI doesn't offer much difference, you get Secure Boot which like, you don't really need, and it boots a bit faster, maybe 5 seconds. honestly just stick to CSM.

UEFI nor CSM have anything to do with WIFI.
