danBrown got a reaction from Naeaes in cloning to new ssd
Yeah I ended up giving up with the cloning. just downloaded an iso of windows 10 and installed that on the laptop. I found out that the product key is apparently in the bios of laptops purchased with windows 8.1 so it registered automatically.
It's just annoying to reinstall everything.
thanks for the replies.

danBrown reacted to delanyinspiron6400 in The Red Beast | 900D | 780 Liquidcooled | First Build :)
Hi Guys, I just wanted to share my first build with you, it took me quite some time and I really enjoyed the process of building my own rig!
I want to start of by thanking this awesome forum, I hadn't built a computer myself before and mostly read through posts here on the forum and learned, what was necessary to build one, so thanks to all of you, especially all the guys, that post in the Watercooling section (Ghost for example ).
I will start with a parts list in the beginning! I build this rig in September of 2013 and now, in December, I took it apart for the first time to place some LEDs and some covers and now I wanted to show of, what has become of my rig!
Parts:
ASUS Maximus V Formula
Intel Core i7 3770k
16 GB Dominator Platinum
180GB Intel 520 SSD
1 TB WD Green Drive
GTX 780
BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 850 Watt PSU
12 BitFenix Spectre Pro Fans
Liquidcooling Gear from Aquacomputer and EK Waterblocks
Cables from Bitfenix
LEDs from Icemodz and some more
27" IPS Monitor from Dell 2560x1440
23" TN Monitor from Dell 2048x1152
...
I'll start of with a picture of my the final build with white LED light
and here
I used the Corsair 900D, because I figured, that with a bigger case it would be easier to work for a Beginner like me,
and it gives me some flexibility to add more stuff and change things around, simply because there is some much space!
As the motherboard I went with the ASUS Maximus V Formula, because I liked the onboard sound solution and the color scheme a lot
and I also liked the EK Waterblocks, that are available for this one, I know, they are just for looks and not really necessary, but I really like the look of those.
Here you can see the Northbridge waterblock
and the 7bit Error Code read out and Start and Reset buttons
I used an Intel Core i7 3770k, because I got a pretty good deal at the time and I also didn't want to wait for the new generation of waterblocks for the new motherboards and so on!
As memory I used Dominator Platinums, just because they look really cool
For my storage I went with an 180GB 520 Series Intel SSD for the Operating System and all the necessary stuff and a 1 TB WD Green Hard Drive for general storage.
As a GPU I chose the reference GTX 780 from ASUS and on there is a waterblock from XSPC
As Power Supply I chose the Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 850 Watt and as Cable Extensions I chose the red BitFenix ones.
My Liquid cooling gear comes from all over this world, I use the Aquacomputer Aquastream xt Ultra pump, which is some modification of one of the Eheim pumps, for control the Aquacomputer Aquaero 5 Pro,
a 400mm Reservoir from Bitspower and also some fittings from there, but I mainly used Primochills Acrylic Tubing, which was a lot of work to get to fit and look nice at the same time, but it looks so awesome now!
I had to import those from Australia. The CPU Waterblock is from XSPC as well! I also use two 480 Rads from EKWB.
Loop order is as follows: Res -> Pump -> Botttom Rad -> Bottom Motherboard Block -> GPU -> CPU -> Top Motherboard Block -> Top Rad -> Res
I chose to loop back over the back, there is enough space on the 900D, so the connection between Top Rad and Res is not really visible!
In the end I also mounted some acrylic in the bottom to cover up the bottom section and in the top to cover up the 5,25" Bayarea, it looks way cleaner now!
Okay guys, I think that's most of my story, I unfortunately don't have to much pictures of the process of building it, I was to much occupied with not screwing up so I took pictures beforehand and afterwards!
I'll just post now some glamour shots and some other pics of the build and my accesories:
And some in all the LED colors, thanks to ICEMODZ for those awesome LEDs
Thanks guys for reading, I hope you enjoyed it! If you have any questions, I'll happily answer them!
All the Best from Austria!

danBrown reacted to DoubleY in 4 280X'S Mining Rig
Hello all! This will be my first attempt at a build log, so don't kill me if I do something wrong
Here is a screen shot of what will be in the build:
Also, PCI-E powered risers will be here on Friday, so that part will be delayed a little bit.
This machine will be used for LITECOINS. DON'T TALK ABOUT ASIC.
Will post more pics once the build starts
Let me know if you want to know anything else
First 280X showed up. More packages should show up soon.
More stuff arrived
Alright, the build is complete! The PCI-E risers didn't arrive today like they should have, so only 3 cards for now. More cards will be added when the rises come
Here are some picture- Yes, I know it is Ghetto. But, don't hate It's a first build!
More pictures to come when it's online and running

danBrown reacted to Brodholm in Model 01 - A Scratch Built Chassis [Finally done!]
Welcome!
I thought I would share a project I have been working on for a few years! Some of you may have seen it on other forums or somewhere else but now I have started the work log here as well. It is a fully custom chassis built and designed by me.
I have been a long time watcher of LinusTechTips on youtube but I never realized that this forum was here. Because of that I never got around to make a work log here for the whole progress only the last month or so of the build. Anyway I hope you will enjoy it! (Updated the pictures to the final ones and added videos!)
History behind the Project:
About 5 years ago I decided that I was going to water cool my computer. Back then I had a Antec P180, not exactly the perfect chassis for water cooling your components. I looked at a lot of different chassis but I was never really happy with any of them. So I started sketching on my own design. First they were really awful, but as time progressed I got better and better at drawing. Early drawings was in MS-paint. I then moved on to Google Sketchup and finally Autodesk Inventor. I have probably gone through about 30 different designs until I finally decided on this one. This was my first custom designed chassis and also my first ever water cooled computer! The basic goal was to design a very quiet high-performing system with a minimalistic and clean design.
Edit: Compiled all the Pictures and Videos in the first post.
Making of Model 01:
Final Result:
The "complete" work log is almost 500 pictures. Below is a compact 100 pics of the process and the final results. If you want ALL 500 pics check out this album: http://imgur.com/a/dTRqx
(all text and info is included in pics! You will not miss a thing!)
FINAL PICTURES
If you have any questions you can go ahead and post it here or via pm and I will always try to answer!
Edit: Changed the first post to a "final post" with all the pictures, videos, text etc.

danBrown reacted to Razbit in [FINISHED March the 8th, 2015] Redefine R4
First of all, this is my first post on this forum
So, the Big Idea: Lets "watercoolerize" the Define R4, and make it better looking == Redefine R4
I've started making the mod a long while back (a little after R4 came to stores in Finland, so we're talking about August -12), so heres what I've done so far. (Sorry about the pics, SGS2 and OnePlus One say hello)
TOC: 1. The beginning and the whole last 15 months in this post 2. Window planning 3. Naming conventions.. 4. Introducing a new element: titanium 5. Paint & putty & sand 6. Back from the dead.. 7. And now the system is all wet! 8. Nearly there! 9. DONE 8.3.2015
Here's the first "update"
Still, there a things to do:
- a window - something to the top to cover the fan holes (allowing air to pass through though, maybe a aluminum sheet on raisers..?) - a new gfx card, maybe GTX Titan once I have the funds.. (670+ triple screen= nono) - fix the tube running through everyting (in front of the graphics card)
That's it for now!
Maannn, that's a HUGE post.. Here, have a potato:
Please comment

danBrown got a reaction from delet my acc pls in Cannot decide on new card
@11k Fixed the mistake also the 'ATI' thats just what the title said, i just copied it.
@The Great Sayain Man - I would get from amazon but its about $20 for shipping charages ( i think) and takes 15+ days to get here to australia. thats the only issue
also found Sapphire R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 OC ; 870 ( BOOST 1020)MHz/6000MHz for $365
Is the difference in performance between the 7950 and 7970/280x worth $100?

Sleeving will involve 100% Custom wiring, all sleeved with MDPC Black Sleeve.
The color scheme throughout the build will be majority Black, with highlights of Red - Motherboard & Coolant being the only highlights.
The Red Heatsink's from the Dominator GT's will be removed prior to the EKWB Waterblock installation, in the mean-time enjoy the photos.
Over the next few days i expect to receive my radiators, fans & other components so i can load this build out.
Time for some component shots, enjoy.
Not the best image quality, I'm not exactly an expert at taking photo's :o

A k u l a V 2 - Complete
So throughout this build i have stuck by my guns and gone with what i felt was right with my highlighting of colors, throughout all my builds I've always gone with the approach, more black less color, well now that I've seen the finished result with the red coolant i could very well change my ways.
The project is now complete, baring a few minor updates, little extra cable management down below & remounting the SSD, nothing big enough to halt the build.
I had my concerns prior to filling the loop, the EK angle fittings felt a little off, but credits to EK, their fittings held up fantastic :)
Couldn't be happier with the finished product, I'm sure it's not everyone's taste, but this sums me up perfectly :)
Started pushing these 680's to their limit today, getting some excellent speeds and the temperatures are amazing.
Thanks for the support throughout this build-log - your comments were very encouraging.
Anyway here is what you have been waiting for, pictures :o
