I think I had and old BFG card at one time that got a little dusty on the cooler and the fan just made awful noise. That was before cases really had fan filters.

My old Ati RadeonHD 4890s were pretty loud but the GTX 480 takes the cake for hot and loud.

Many years ago Nvidia released some FX card, I believe it was the FX 5700 or something. It sounded exactly like a hair dryer. Lol, I don't think anything since then has been even close to as loud.

*EDIT*

Whoops I didn't see this. This is exactly what I'm talking about. Lmao, this was a MASSIVELY loud video card. Sheesh...

Loudest was reference 7970 overclocked to 1100 MHz, when i played Metro 2033 and Witcher 2 it sounded like someone was using a leaf blower in my house, then when i got some odd colored blocks when playing Metro i checked temperature of the card and it was 94 Celsius, then i defaulted the clocks and just kept the fan at 100% when playing until i sold that piece of...poop B) Then i had 7970 DirectCU II man what a difference :D

95c is still within spec. Also this poll is moot because AMD and nvidia both have had quiet not so quiet and some just down right loud GPUs.
