I agree with this article in that the correction (crash or whatever you wanna call it) that happened this week helped weed out people who either a) suck at investing or b) couldn't give a rat's ass about blockchain and just wanted to get in for a get rich quick scheme. As Warren Buffet once said, don't invest on something you don't understand.

Cheap chinese stuff I have bought that worked out really well:

The EV-peak C1 lipo charger. Great charger. Costs roughly the same as am imax b6 but has more charging power and most importantly, a user can set a target voltage for charging. For example, I have a 12S ebike pack and maybe today I only want to charge the pack to 4.0v per cell. Easy, go into the charger and set it like that. The imax b6 is not end-voltage adjustable by the user.

My cheapo plastic calipers for $2. Used them a bunch of times.

My Ming he DC-DC converters I use to bulk charge my ebike batteries.

A couple of screwdriver sets. I think I lost the bits before the set wore out.

Any connectors and silicone wire comes from china and has always worked out great.

My ebike hub motor worked great until I sent 96v through it at 40A and it died, so no surprise there.

I have one of those cheap IR temperature guns that seems to do the job. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but ballpark numbers are better than nothing.

I just bought this today with the mail in rebate cards I got back from newegg:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/162292444459

the reviews say it's pretty good. It's not a weller but I don't need it to be one. This station will probably be used mostly for 18-14AWG wire anyway. The hot air portion of the station is going to be used to replace a burned out surface mount MOSFET on one of my imax B6's that broke some time ago.

My biggest gripe when it comes to iphones is they don't have a file system like android phones do.

If apple allowed me to browse a file system natively on their phone without using any third-party apps, I would probably keep using iphones. But since they don't do this, my next phone when my iphone SE dies is going to be a $200 android.

Nvidia being assholes with HairWorks again - go figure.

Errata: Technically the decision to put Hairworks-heavy objects far away / hidden from sight was on the developer, but one has to think that the artificial decrease in performance for cards that aren't optimized for tessellation be it AMD or Pre-Maxwell Nvidia has something to do with the GPU maker that's got its name written all over this title's marketing.

So far it's going well, getting up to 184 fps on Heaven. Gonna try Superposition next since it struggled with that one in particular with my A6.

is linustechtips.com a forum or a social media website?

In other news, my ebike parts arrived in the mail today. I still have plans to build a custom charger, or just buy something off the shelf if I get lazy.

Also, I found my old ebike parts (like my old custom ebike charger made from a bunch of server PSUs and a cheapo imax b6) in my garage. They were sitting in a milk crate, so now I don't have to rebuy a new RC balance charger and watt meter. Yay!

This time I went with a rear wheel hub motor. Rear wheel is sooo much better.

Anyone want to see a build log of the ebike? Keep in mind I won't be publishing it until oh, about june of this year once I get the parts together.

I should probably go through my drive weekly and clean out unnecessary files, I don't know how long it'll be before I'd actually need another drive, but I'd like to put that off as long as I can.

Right now my plans for this year are to hopefully get a decent sized SSD I can load my games and OS onto, and then throw in another 1Tb drive in addition to my current terabyte, still not sure if I'll RAID them or not....

Another 8Gb memory wouldn't be bad either.

Alright, so after getting the SSD yesterday and tinkering around with it for a bit, I've found out a few things:
    1. He was lying: it's only detected in the BIOS.
    2. He might have done something to it: the warranty void sticker was punctured and the screw underneath was removed.
Welp. I'm going to try and install Windows on it, although I highly, highly doubt it'll work
    Wish me luck guys!

Decided to rebuild the ebike this summer. Just ordered the replacement kit. Keeping the total budget for everything to under $500 this time around. I already have batteries on hand so that should be doable (building your own ebike battery typically costs around $200 in parts)

Stuff i've learned from the ebike kits on ebay:

    1. The hub motors are surprisingly good. They are even waterproof to some extent.

    2. The motor controllers are "so so". They really just need to be mounted outside the bike and you will be good to go. The really important thing is to keep the water out of the controllers and keep them cool, otherwise they do weird stuff

    3. The throttles are best described as junk BUT, they can be easily waterproofed. then they are good.

    3. The batteries are crap. That's why I have built my own some time ago. I have two now. One is a 12S4P pack made from LG MJ1 18650 cells. The second is a 12S8P pack made from Samsung 28A 18650 cells.

when I use the packs, they get really hot, like 50C. For a CPU or GPU, that's okay, but this is a battery so that's bad. On the other hand, I actually don't care that much, since I have two of them and they are so cheap to replace. I'll run them hard until they die, then pick up some A123 cells that will last thousands of cycles. I just don't want to go out and build a new battery when I already have some laying around that will do the job. Just run em' into the ground and get some long-lasting ones.

I am also building a "universal" ebike battery charger that will be able to charge any voltage battery I want use the ming He BST900:

I had one of these at my house and it works great. I can charge any possible voltage battery pack I want at any given current. I can charge slow, or charge fast. I can charge to 4.2v per cell or lower for increased lifespan. I just need to put the converter inside of an enclosure because I want to use it outdoors.

Anyone know where I can buy custom enclosures?
