OLED while maintaining the same resolution would help battery life even more.

Or they could not of regulated their nuclear facility at San Onofre into oblivion and make shutting down Diablo Canyon a reality in 2020-somthing. More wind turbines that don't produce green energy, a 17 billion dollar solar plant that doesn't work and they are stuck buying nuclear power created by my company in Arizona at twice the going rate... wait...continue to be stupid Politicians, Ill take my overtime.

California Proposition 666:
All usages of a general purpose personal computer (defined as a device that can arbitrarily run unsupervised code that the user chooses) shall require a license. Use of any general purpose computer without a license is therefore prohibited.
All general purpose computers sold, built, or imported into California shall require registration. Failure to do so will incur severe penalties and seizure of the computer. Running any OS other than the installed St the time of registration is strictly prohibited.
All programming for any device shall require a California Developers License. All development shall be done on a registered computer. All code must be submitted for inspection before deployment.
I'd wager a few members here will get nightmares from reading the above.

Except this entire space is driven by consumers and enterprise wanting to cut back on electricity expenses. Look at the data center, virtualization and cloud computing. The industry is already moving in the green direction.
I'll ignore the fructose/sugar thing, because being in Australia, my opinion is the opposite (probs because i don't consumer the syrup very often).

Sounds like a supreme court case to me...
California: the state of "we don't give two shits what you think, we'll tell you how to live anyway and if you think the Constitution means anything out here well have we got news for you".
So so sad. This why I live Iowa.

Knowing how things usually go down in California, they'll force the vendors to use Intel's TDP-limiting features to de-rate the CPU to some awful extent only for California.
Of course, once this happens, it will emerge that some vendors are providing over-rides or actually selling machines into California without the California de-rates applied.
So California will tighten things up even more, requiring GPS verification that a computer is not within California before enabling the higher TDP modes. Hence, every pre-built machine sold into California will require an on-board GPS in its circuitry. Driving up the cost by another $50-$100.
When people evade that by, for example, unplugging the antennas, there will be annual computer inspections where you have to take your computer in, and some inspector "verifies" that the antennas are wired, and the GPS correctly is receiving the computer's present coordinates.

I'm kind of worried that the regulations will backfire and just result in computers/monitors costing more, without actually improving power efficiency. Having seen the devastating unforeseen consequences of regulation before, I can totally see companies finding ways to circumvent these regulations in ways that drive up costs without improving power efficiency. For example, including meaningless hardware that raises the classification of the device without improving its performance or quality.
The best comparison I can make is the sugar tariff in the United States resulting in us getting horrible Pepsi/Coke made with high fructose corn syrup instead of real sugar. Seriously, if you tried pepsi/coke made with sugar, its 100x better. But they use this corn syrup garbage to avoid taxes on sugar.
I can see something similar happening with computers. Instead of improving power efficiency to meet regulations, they instead try to circumvent regulations by adding in components like more USB hubs that change the classification of the device to allow more power consumption, driving up costs while providing no benefit to power efficiency, simply because it's cheaper than conforming to power efficiency standards.
What are your thoughts on this?

Pretty big cock-up from Apple.

I haven't watched the video but I have heard the iPhone tops the charts in Geekbench and Antutu. And honestly single core is the one that actually matters in the real world. As I said, show me a computational android app that performs faster than the iOS app, like lapse it or some kind of a cross platform movie editor because last time I checked the 6S beats most android flagships. And btw these are real documented facts if you didn't know
and btw I know that octa core is implementation of big.LITTLE, but I remember reading that some phones can indeed take advantage of all 8 cores if needed
Let me stop you right there. If Apples design is iterative that explains why they keep topping charts year after year. At least that or the competition is lazy AF which is highly unlikely. And it's never by a small margin rather an embarrassinglyhuge margin. Every year and then again with the AX chips
Like? As far as I know and it's a fact ARM is the one who introduced big.LITTLE and the competition hasn't been doing anything rather than turning quad core into octa core with pretty much no difference both in real world and synthetic benchmark (by a much)
Seems like the competition is having trouble trying to somewhow figure out what Apple does to their chips
Yeah I know that. But where Apple stands out is that they're able to take something that already exists in the market and make it massively better then what others haven't even come close to. Now that is a true feat by the engineering team at Apple despite how much ever you want to downplay it
Deny criticism? Sure bring out actual criticism and I'll agree, but bring out this bullshit and then you're forcing me to reply like how you and some others do just because I can't stand pure ignorance
-
Slycamer reacted to RedRound2 in iPhone 7 - Performance Results
Please don't be ignorant
The fact that mobile SoC are improving at this rate especially when Apple tops the chart every year is a true innovation. Last time checked only Intel used to do that (and even got most innovative company credit for it) till AMD kind of last their way
And really android is optimized for quad cores? Then why isn't android phones with the best qualcomm chipsets unable to beat Apple A series chip when android chipsets are octa cores and Apple's chips a dual core. The multi core score for android usually edges out Apple's after a while and based on your claim android apps should run faster and better if it were the case
Please don't bring up some lame ass excuses to somehow deny Apple didn't innovate. Either appreciate them or just don't comment

Slycamer reacted to patrick3027 in iPhone 7 - Performance Results
It's not "very good", it completely shatters the competition and will continue to do so well into 2017. It's the fastest phone in day to day usage. You can trow multi core scores at me how much you want, I refuse to believe there is a single app on the appstore that is as well optimized as Geekbench.

Called it. Give it 2 generations and the 3.5mm Jack will be a fond memory.
Given the explosive nature of the 7 series I'd say it could be the only selling point of the 8 series

Slycamer reacted to 79wjd in FAA bans Samsung Note 7 passengers from using their phone regardless if you have the replacement
So is it reasonable for the flight attendants to ask each and every person using a Galaxy Note 7 to verify that? And what if they don't have service (i.e. they're already in the air)? Then there's the issue of people hiding the device so they don't have to have it checked. It's already hard enough to know if it's a note 7 or some other smartphone as it is let alone determine which variant of the note 7 it is.
The only reasonable solution is to just ban it as a whole for the time being.
