Give it  another year, especially with the GPU market as it is and if you're only playing at 1080p. Besides, you'd probably see decent gains just by upgrading the CPU first.

K or no K, it's still a better upgrade for the money. But OP doesn't like used gear.

Are you for real? his current board is a Z97 and all it needs is an i7 4770K or 4790K to make it a much better machine. 

Why sell the board? just upgrading the CPU to an i7 4770K or 4790K would make so much more sense in this case. 

There's no point in upgrading to LGA 1151, just find a used i7 4770K or 4790K on Ebay.

I don't see any benefits to going to a 1151 cpu. a 4790(i7) or 4690 (i5)
is a MUCH better option for your money than switching platforms.

I'll have to go watch that. Still... yet to get any opinions on if it's worth the EXTRA ability to OC when you buy the 3770k compared to the limited OCing I can do to the 3770.

Bc I plan to give my whole old system to my GF for school/light gaming and I'd also have to go through the trouble of selling my mobo, cpu, ram, etc that I've already collected.
 
To top it off, the 3rd gen is just cheaper and from what I've seen doesn't really perform worse than 4th gen chips.
 
Also, my current system is in a cheap ASUS prebuilt with a proprietary mobo, so that could potentially lead to complications since I want to transfer cases anyway and the mobo is cheap, so I wouldn't be able to OC, so the best I could get would be a locked 4th gen chip which would cost about the same as an unlocked 3rd gen chip which should perform better once OC'd.
 
... Basically, there's just a ton of reasons for me to upgrade off my z77 platform and not enough performance increase for me to bother dealing with all of the hassles of upgrading my H81/B85 platform.

i dont care the exact performance 1080p highest settings 60fps is all i need bro
