X1 Carbon is a good choice as well.

Hamako got a reaction from Donut417 in What type of computer would Linux run better on?
ThinkPads are optimized for Linux and run exceptionally well with almost any Distro. In fact, ThinkPads are THE Linux laptop. (mostly because many developers use ThinkPads for Linux)

If you want to experience a similar symbiosis as macOS + Apple Hardware, then Fedora on a ThinkPads is the closest you can get.

The Lenovo Outlet currently has some nice T450s machines. You might want to check those out. Make sure to get one with a FHD display. Don't get the T450.

Hamako got a reaction from don_svetlio in Ultrabooks heat dissipation
Depends on the heatpipe and fan construction. Machines like the T460s can easily dissipate up to 25W while some Ultrabooks can struggle with even 15W.

Actually no, they won't. For example the T460s can keep its full turbo clock speed when stress-tested and stays at 70°C. (see NBC review)

For games however, one should always go with a Quad-core. The dual-core U CPU's aren't designed for gaming.

oh so much misinformation, dell also had spyware... It is no longer a thing on Lenovo or dell laptops and it was fixed fairly fast, so maybe stop living in the past. How can people even say that the 7559 is better than a Y700, what are they on? A 7559 is worse than the Y700 in every single way expect battery life. The only reasons I see behind those people calling the 7559 better is 1. They are stupid, 2. They just hate Lenovo, 3. They live in the past, 4. They love dell. To all of you people who comment on something you clearly don't know jack shit about, just ssssshhhh and leave, because you guys make it harder for me and the other guys that know a lot about laptops to help the OP, because we have to fight you guys first.

T450S has better build quality than the ones listed. It's a Magnesium Alloy. MUCH more durable than Aluminium and also lighter.

After some more research I figured out that I will essentially have to just buy a newer version of OS X. I'll be able to upgrade to any newer version once I have Snow Leopard or later, as it grants access to the Mac App store.

Ok... Just to prove my point:
Build Log from 1 month ago:  Look at the vlog style in a supposedly studio quality video.
Build Log from 2 years ago: GOOOOD
I mean sure, the thumbnails better now. But in every other way the old video is superior.

LTT stated out hand held and low production quality then in 2014 (+- 1 year) they got really high production value with really nice camera work and now its really starting to go back to the original look. It started with only updates and some server or action thing being in this low production value style but now its effecting basically all of their videos. Build logs are no longer professionally made. Reviews are the only thing that even barely resembles 2014 LTT. I'm not necessarily saying its a bad thing but it is kind of disappointing. They spent so much on cameras and professional video editors and now they've reverted. Anyone else have this feeling?

    Build logs? What build logs?

That's one thing that really disappoints me, my favourite videos on LTT were the build guides and build logs with informative yet entertaining commentary and slick-looking graphics. They hardly do them any more

Despite this, I do think the channel has improved on the whole, particularly in the set design and B-roll departments.

Yeah, the content seems kinda lackluster too.
They can blame it on not that many stuff coming out now (or at least they did blame it on that the last couple of months), but I still feel like their content is not as good as it used to be.
Only the B-roll is better IMO. They now bank a lot on the vlog-style content, the.. just the way they talk now and all the in-jokes. Reviews don't come out often anymore and if they do it feels very meh..

I'm just rambling now.. If you don't agree with me it's fine, this is just my opinion.

I mostly use business laptops so spare parts are abundant and cheap. That's one of the downsides of gaming laptops.

I have done many LCD mods on laptops, including those that require soldering a new adapter. The first thing you need to do is compare the pin layout of both panels and see if there are differences. Use the data sheet to do this. If they are different, you will need to solder a new adapter.

However, I wouldn't bother in the first place because going from 6 to 8 bit is not something that is likely going to work.

    Also,
is not actually the display that your laptop uses. All LG display models start with "LP". Example: LP125WF-SLB1.

Hamako reacted to Dackzy in Best laptop overall?
I don't have a preference at all, I buy the things that are the best and I know a lot about tech and laptops(I fix laptops). I am keeping people away from shitty laptops that will overheat and throttle, if you are not okay with that, there is something wrong with you, because all I do is help people. To be honest you need to say it a lot and keep saying it and even then I will have stupid fanboys saying something else to me, when I have all the facts on my side.

The GMA950 doesn't offer hardware acceleration for videos, so all the videos are being decoded by your CPU, putting a lot of stress on it. While these Core Duo machines can still be very snappy if you equip them with a SSD and run Linux, I'd recommend to get at least a Penryn-based Core 2 Duo with GMA4500MHD, which is the first Intel GPU to support video acceleration. There are plenty of business laptops on eBay that offer this at a very low price. (something like a ThinkPad T400 will cost you about 50-150$, depending on the specs and condition)

The Razer has a crappy keyboard, so it's probably out of the race. It's also made of inferior materials (aluminium). Not to mention that almost any laptop can run an eGPU, so I don't see the point of the overpriced Core. (it's probably for the type of people who rather buy a pre-built desktop than build one themselves)

I'd go with the T460s. It's a higher quality machine and the low weight is noticeable if you carry it with you every day.
