GeekyPete reacted to TheRealSerious in SCRAPYARD WARS season 5 Concept Suggestion
    Hello everyone,

Just registered to suggest a concept for the next season of Scrapyard Wars :

Theme : "Multiple rigs in one case"

Goal is be to fit as many different computers as possible in a single case.
    Rules are as follow :
    - must use a consumer grade case (no server rack)
    - all computers in the case have to be running and connected to a screen at the same time to run benchmarks
    - score is determined by : (sum of the benchmark scores)*number of computers running in the case

    What I expect :
    - Zombie builds with power issues
    - Cases stuffed to the brim with small form factor mobos and laptop components
    - Ghetto I/O panels cut in the front/top/anywhere
    - Serious heating issues
    - Nightmarish cable management
    - A lot of fun and entertainment

I've got a wallmounted computer with my HDD bolted to the metal backboard using motherboard risers. It's quite audible when it spins up and is reading/writing, like when playing a movie or if I have torrents seeding/downloading. Do you have a plan for mounting the hard drives, or how did you do it, and did you include some kind of vibration dampening?

Honestly any brand 2.5 inch SSD will provide a massive improvement to your laptop's everyday performance.

Just don't get any of the no-name Chinese knockoff SSDs that are out there.

    @indie.demon
Not just this but it won't work. Game streaming, thin clients, VDI etc all of these are terrible for multi user gaming deployments just don't do it.

Just buy cheap computers with mid range parts and use 1080p screens, this is perfectly fine people will be happy to use them and it'll 100% work.

So long as the PSU itself lasts, then it can keep the fans running (assuming a molex connection). The parts are probably just there for the sake of collecting the dust, rather than actually being powered...

...either that, or I hope they are at the very least using those machines for something (say, F@h / Boinc) instead of just wasting a lot of electricity.

GeekyPete reacted to manikyath in How to build 1 computer for 2 gamers more cheaper??
i've actually pitched the idea to a friend of mine in the past.

in one of the jobs he did trough the years, he had to set up, guard over, and maintain the computers they use at events for people to play games on etc. and because people are just slightly more intelligent apes, he had taken to putting all the systems in weighted steel boxes to keep people from breaking them, that's probably one of the *few* moments where a system like this would be somewhat sensible since you only need to forklift away one steel bunker instead of 7

I dunno. LMG could do shill quickie pretty well. Just read the "bit" in monotone. No emotion whatsoever, and flash clips of how "well" whatever they have is performing or how much of a pain it was to get working. So in the foreground you have Linus saying "And setup is a breeze" and in the background you have the LTT crew swearing over how much of a pain said thing was to setup and get working.

Basically a "read between the lines" channel. (For laughs, obviously.)

How about a Video Gaming Channel.
Kinda CSF, but 95% gaming, not like 1 battlecouch episode every 3 weeks

So IDK if this is a dumb idea or not, but I think LTT should put who edited the video at the bottom of the description. Sometimes it is nice to know who did what. Comment if you like this idea or think it is stupid.

In fact, I'd like to see the stats for "weird things bought before and after this video."

We should all buy super weird/nasty things with the amazon code.

There's a word for a leader who jails inconvenient political opponents. Trump has already promised to lean on the justice system if elected. You should be very worried about the implications of him getting near power.

Definitely think you should do more general tech stuff. Personally I'd love to hear your opinions on things like "Best tech under $50", or videos of that nature. I think most other tech channels do them, and I haven't seen one from you guys in ages.
I'd love to see a lot more! Videos like that have led me to quite a few useful purchases I simply wouldn't have thought of otherwise.
