there is no pressure difference with low RPM fans. If intake/exhaust is pushing more air it just flows through. You need 6000rpm server fans to create a meaningful pressure difference. I did this and the case did collect dust in all its gaps but they sealed/clogged themselves up and there was not much dust on the components

So long as the PSU itself lasts, then it can keep the fans running (assuming a molex connection). The parts are probably just there for the sake of collecting the dust, rather than actually being powered...

 

...either that, or I hope they are at the very least using those machines for something (say, F@h / Boinc) instead of just wasting a lot of electricity.

So are the machines at least folding while they idle for a year? Also I hope there is a UPS hooked up or at least some sort of way to make sure they are still on in a month if power goes out...

Pretty sure he meant that no one has ever done a long term experiment like this with uniform starting and running conditions, except for the variable in question.

They're in Canada, they'll get a blizzard, the power will be knocked out and they'll forget about the pc's until Lukes calendar reminds him in a year. In which case they will have been off for 6 months.

Hey Luke, I REALLY hope you filtered all the intakes of the Inny PC. Otherwise this exercise is pretty pointless - the theory that positive airpressure reduces dust ONLY works if all the intakes are actually filtered.

Why don't you guys just have the case fans run through the psu? That way power isn't wasted on idle performance 

just a suggestion ^^

And there are two things that i wanna know @Slick

 

1. Why use a full set of hardware and not just a bunch of fans?

2. If you are using hardware anyways, why not at least get a real GPU in them and do some Folding at Home/Boinc?

Yea, he didn't specifically say but unless he put filters on ALL the intakes (including the rear and top) this is a pointless experiment. @Slick Did you guys do this?

 

I have a weird fan setup on my PC (rear intake) but I installed a filter on the rear and bottom intake since the case didn't have any there. I've only dusted it once since building it in May but it didn't even need it:

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.
