Okay, so now that AMD has given in to popular resentment, can someone explain to me what improvement a Ryzen 4000 CPU is going to bring to my ASRock B450M Pro 4 motherboard should I feel compelled to switch out my 5 3600?

Because the BIOS chips aren't made by AMD, nor does AMD have any sort of mandate on the size.

Well part of it is the problem that we all still think in the 'Intel ways'. This is also why Intel does prefer to change the socket so it can't be confused.

I do think back in 2016 AMD had every intention for every chipset to support all architectures on AM4, even if not all processors but at least most of them. But back in 2016 AMD still had a bad rep and board vendors were still very weary of putting money in to a platform with no proof it was actually going to sell well and zero brand reputation to back it. So you make it cheap to lower your risk and with how busy AMD would have been I would find it very hard to believe they would micro manage board partners down to the BIOS chip size, that's not their wheelhouse.

Now that we know it's a problem and everyone's gone 'oh shit' there is little that can be done. Lets also not forget about the problems AMD had giving support during Ryzen 3000 launch for chipsets that were intended to be not supported but board vendors insisted on providing support so AMD backed that. This forced AMD in to a position of supporting their CPU customers that had product combinations that didn't actually work, Ryzen 3000 CPU upgrade kits for free. This was likely a logistical nightmare and very costly too.

    https://www.extremetech.com/computing/295027-amd-will-provide-a-free-temporary-uefi-upgrade-kit-for-ryzen-3000-motherboard-updates

This is why it baffles me how easy everyone forgot about these problems during the Ryzen 3000 launch, it was a huge damn problem.

Somtimes your partners let you down and there is nothing you can do about it, sometimes you don't know they have until years later. You just have to do the best you can with the situation, if that means the same as Ryzen 3000 situation or no support at all then that is what it is. Go bitch to board vendors for having no faith during a time when there was no warrant for them to, because FX did them no favors.

They only ever promised AM4 support until 2020, that's it. If people can't take a clue from already existing chipsets not having support for older gen processors and motherboard vendors having to do split BIOS releases because the chips are too small, information covered in multiple different prominent YouTube channels, then that is on them. If you assumed something that was not stated by the company ever that is your fault, truth hurts sometimes and people don't want to hear it.

The issue is B550 got delayed way, way, way longer than it should of. That's it. This forced people in to making bad decisions with bad information that wasn't clarified, but again that bad information only ever came from the community not the company. A small amount of blame can fall on motherboard vendors for providing support where it was not offered officially from AMD, that obscured things a bit. The flip side to that is they may again provide support for Zen3 on 400 series where it is not officially supported by AMD, if they can they likely will (not official information from AMD or vendors, assumption warning).

It doesn't sound that stupid, I've seen it suggested both earlier in this thread and somewhere in the reddit thread. The counter to this, though, is it makes it harder for the manufacturers to maintain their BIOSes, versioning them becomes a PITA, and it becomes much too easy to confuse the user about what will and won't work.

You really don't need an upgrade in that case, just wait out and get Ryzen 5000 with a new board, it will be a much more meaningful upgrade than a jump from Zen 2 to Zen 3.
Zen 2 is already a beast and a half.

    My take:
I don't think this is to say that MS isn't without fault and Google isn't doing any good, but it's pretty funny to see that these two tech giants are now on opposite sides of where they were a year ago.

    Just a note:
Netflix region locks their content for one reason, and one reason only: Licensing and Distribution rights.

Netflix would LOVE to provide their entire library to every region. But they can't, because they don't own the rights to do so. This is a problem with the Movie/TV Industry, NOT with Netflix specifically.

Netflix has to negotiate with the studio that owns the rights to a particular content (Lets use the TV Show 'The Big Bang Theory', for example... NBC I think?) to have that content in their library. They then have to RENEGOTIATE with the studio for every single region. Hell, they may even have to deal with multiple companies for the same damn content, because the studio will contract out the distribution rights internationally in many cases. (Example: A movie might be made by Warner Brothers, but the international distribution rights might be owned by Sony).

Furthermore, Netflix has to deal with A LOT of rights holders who simply won't license the content, because they already have a more lucrative deal with Cable TV providers. OR even worse, they already have their own online distribution mechanism (HBO 2 Go, but thank God HBO is going to finally allow non-cable subscribers to subscribe to the web streaming).

Look at Canada for example. Everyone complains about how shit Netflix is in Canada compared to the USA. Most of the shows that Netflix can't show in Canada are ones that the two Cable TV providers (Shaw and Rogers), and the main Satellite Provider (Bell) own the distribution rights to. They refuse to license to Netflix because they make more money by being exclusive to their own traditional TV package. Furthermore Shaw and Rogers recently teamed up for a Netflix competitor called 'Shomi', which will further erode Netflix's ability to fairly compete, because Rogers and Shaw own a TON of exclusive licensing deals that Netflix can't get because they won't license them out.

I'm not saying that this makes DRM OKAY. But what I am saying is that there's always more to the story. The problem with a lot of these issues goes far deeper, and is rooted in the backwards "stuck in the past" mentality of the Movie and TV Industry.

Go play Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis. Tell me, how does it feel when the frames drop, is it just a number then? No. The feel of a game is obvious when there is slow down. That was the early 90's, this is 2014.This is just sad when a dev spews such obvious nonsense in the form of PR. I'm not buying it, neither are smart gamers. A film and a game are not the same genre. To compare both is moot.

Games that act bad above 30fps when unlocked are coded terribly. It's not 30fps being superior for a smoother gameplay in those cases, it's poor programming. Console gamers are spoon-fed a lot of crap and accept it. Console gamers should have the same entitlements PC gamers have. This thing called "options". They should be allowed to tweak settings like PC gamers and be the ones to choose ~30FPS with taxed graphics, or lower graphics for 60FPS.

    Ultra settings ~30FPS < High settings 60FPS

I love shiny graphics, but shiny graphics mean crap when the game is laggy.
