Id love to get my hands on a few of these. I imagine drives will be eyewateringly expensive for a while but i just expanded my current 4x6tb array with another 5x10tb array. That should hopefully last me long enough to have the prices drop. Though in 5 or so years id hope we come up with a better connector than SATA for data drives. Or a better solution with PCIE using up so many lanes on consumer CPUs for data bandwidth.

A lot of people seem to be assuming that "faster must always be better" but that isnt always the case. For example: What if you have a specific amount of vibration tolerance in your system and a 7200rpm drive is over that? Or you have a power budget, and spinning at 7200rpm is over that? Or what if you already have an array of 5 disks at 5400rpm and add a new one thinking it is the same thing, but it turns out the manufacturer lied to you? Or how about straight up the manufacturer lied to you about what they were giving you and that should be a good enough reason to sue them for false advertising. Specifications are there for a reason, and lying on them deserves backlash and punishment. Calling something a 5400rpm "class" drive is purely there to deceive and misdirect people. There is no reasonable way someone could look at "5400rpm class drive" and understand that it runs at 7200rpm.

Security through obscurity. This does stop you from being hacked, but doesnt really fix the problem in reality. Just takes one bored person

All those things are mitigate-able by choices made at purchase of the phone i think. User replaceable battery and screen isnt nearly as difficult as most people make it out to be, and costs a fraction of what even going to a store to replace it would cost. Updates that cause a phone to shit the bed.... well im not sure that has ever happened unless a you lost power in a bios flash? but choosing a phone or a brand that has good enough public support on something like XDA isnt hard. And rooting and flashing (on android) is easier now more than ever id say. Now.... being reliant on the app stores? That is a choice. Choosing to use and apple phone means you agree to whatever shit show that apple lets you run. Choosing to use the play store just means you dont care enough to find another store, or just the apk yourself. I mean i hate that companies make 1.2k USD phones, and then wash their hands of them in 3 years. I hate that google takes a fucking year to roll out a major update. But i also understand that people looking for both those things, are in the minority. With the vast majority of the public really only caring that their phone works and costs somewhere between 300 and 600 dollars.

Define: Lasts I have have a few phones that are older than 3 generations. They still call, access the internet, can do almost anything in the playstore other than modern games. I have them doing things like being a remote for plex/kodi, home automation, entertainment systems.My current phone i think is coming up on 2 years and its battery still lasts 2 days of moderate use (6hr screen on with 50% brightness). If youre willing to replace your battery (not hard for most phones) 3 years is a joke. You can keep a modern smartphone alive until they shut off the 4g antennas for 8g or whatever. They are only just now shutting off 3g that came out in 2002. "Planned Obsolescence" and "Forced Upgrades" are a social thing, not a technology issue.

Guess I'm going to stop watching YouTube entirely. Literally the only reason i ever went to it was through an email notification link. I have never used the front page, or recommended pages or anything like that. Sucks for those creators, guess YouTube doesn't consider my views to be worth it. Secondary note, if it wasnt for this forum and this post, i wouldve never heard of this or known at all. Did they not see fit to notify their users in any way whatsoever?

10 months since the 4 and 4xl launch

I eventually gave in. Whitelisting for sites that i frequent and i trust, but for many sites i block everything and donate as patrons or to live streams or buying merch. Linus i know has said in the past that even small donations likely will end up as more money to the creator than adblock would take away from them. Same with something like YoutubeRed. Its a shame that a bunch of assholes ruined something that helped make the internet what it is today. But there are too many tracking cookies, cryptominers, fingerprinters now days to justify me not using adblock. aloing with httpseverywhere, decentraleyes, and a few other plugins, and 2 pihole for good measure. (skipping google services like search and map unless needed too)

If your family has rules saying dont do it, and doesnt stop them from doing it. Someone is always responsible. Just because your subordinates did it doesnt mean youre not responsible for their actions on some level.

Because they are the same price as the list launch price when the first came out. Not the same price as they are currently on sale for now. Meaning instead of replacing the existing priced lineup, they reset the prices for maybe a few % improvement.

I honestly don't get that orientation of case. Why not flip it outside down and have all the ports coming out the bottom, and then raise it up a bit to let it have a skirt or something to hide/route the cords. Then just make it one or two glass and put 2 120 fans on the non-thermal/non-mobo side and a single fan on top, 120/140/200 or whatever. Why is there so damn much plastic making the case seem even larger than it already is for an ITX? Why is the PSU cord in such an odd spot? Why is the PSU even in that position to begin with? So damn many strange design choices to me.

Software as a service and hardware as a service. Nothing is surprising about this now days. The definition of "ownership" has been drastically diluted by the tech industry in the past 20 years. But so long as people keep buying and clicking agree to those terms and conditions, thats not going to change. The government has no reason to step in like people believe.

Weird feature, but i like the fact they are trying to innovate. This could be really cool if it was a part of something like the H1 case where it comes with the PSU and already has specific length cables. Cant say it would be super useful everywhere but i like that they are trying more than most companies.

Speaking from the other side of this. The devs totally understand and wish they could do more to help. This is a corporate management and image issue. I have been a part of a few of these "Safety Stand-downs" (What they called them) where everyone dropped scope work and tried to knock out as many defects as they could in two weeks. The problem is that isnt enough time for many large issues, and then management pretends like they fixed everything and pushes everyone back onto their scope work. The devs always wish they could fix more things, or larger things, but defect fixes dont sell products. The solution for this? Make as much public noise as possible. "There is no bad press" is total bullshit. Force the companies bs into the light and they will put a larger focus on quality over speed. Which in the software world follows the adage "slow is smooth smooth is fast", its much easier to write new things on top of good code than shit code with 50 bandaid fixes over top of it.

349 bucks for a case, psu, cpu cooler, and riser seems a bit steep for me. But then again cases now days have drastically increased in cost since i bought my last one. I remember paying 189 for it (imported from germany) and thinking it was a fortune for it. But in the ~7 years since then 200 bucks seems 'normal' for a mid tier case, and 70-80 dollar cases are 'bottom of the barrel' shit with no features. Looks cool, id like it, but possibly too rich for my blood and the cooling seems not great.

Working in the government contracting sector we have to ensure section 508 compliance on literally everything we develop. Even things that literally only 1 person in the world has access to and i have met in person and know for a fact they are not blind nor deaf nor colorblind, nor any of the other provisions. It is interesting that the ruling stopped short of mandating the same coverage as section 508. 508 compliance is a HUGE drain on resources not just in developing it but in testing and maintaining it. It doesnt help that every browser and every text reader works off a different non-standard system too. While i agree that allowing easy access for disabled people is always great, forcing small companies or small projects to support that right out of the gate is a hell of a hurdle to jump through. Id be interested to see how they actually intend to enforce it as well. Just having the SC say something doesnt mean it magically means that the world changes.

Doesnt everyone have some sort of sync and backup for contacts and photos? I get ransomware on computers because very few people have backups (offline or cloud) but phones seems kind of silly. If i get hit by this, i spend an hour resetting my phone and sync everything back.

Maybe its time to "upgrade" my shine 3....

Shocking, people hate being lied to and appreciate when people are open and honest. I get that youtubers are a "business" and we wouldnt expect to have the same level of openness from existing business. But in particular in an industry that is basically all marketing its nice to have someone be upfront and honest and say "Ive been paid to have this item on my desk." Because no matter what ANYONE says EVER, its impossible to remove yourself from bias. But if i know someone could be biased, i can make my own opinion on what they are telling me. Instagram and Twitter are horrible for famous people who post photos of them LOVING some stupid thing, and never telling anyone they were given it free or were paid to do something. Marketing laws need to get with the 21st century.

I guess i should've clarified about what i mean by "making a difference". I was referring to the fact that people think that this will mean that someone who couldn't do any of these activities in the past could magically pick up this open source tool and be able to backwards engineer Microsoft Word. That simply just isnt the case. All this is, is give people who already know how to use a tool like this, to do it better/easier/faster/differently. The negative impact of this is extremely small, if it even exists at all. On the other hand this is great for the community of programming in general and its a good sign when people take things and make them open source instead of throwing it away to never be seen again.

Open sourcing something like this doesnt really DO a whole lot. Mostly because tools like this already existed, and even if they do exist the knowledge on how to use any of the results is very difficult. Basically the people who actually could do anything with the data, already have access to the data if they really wanted it. Its cool that they open sourced it because thats always a step in the right direction but the actual impact of something like this is pretty minimal.

Ill be interested to see how this affects a lot of our VA projects, which are all primarily developed on macbook pros. The new macbooks were already not great at improving performance and build times, this seems like it would purely just drive people away from the work side of it.

Not sure why i really understand why people think that "because X did it" or "didnt do it" should be valid in any case. Where is any of the proof? Americans spy agencies have been guilty of intercepting CISCO routers and altering them for years in order to spy on companies or countries. But the mention of Huawei's connections to the Chinese government is enough to get them banned across several large markets? Got to say id be shocked if a company as big as Huawei DIDNT have connections to the government somewhere. Any company that is that large would have some ties to any countries government they would operate in. That would just be a smart business decision. Edited to add: My reasoning for this is because they are still a private company. And any government interference with a private company should at least publicize the reason behind it. Especially if they are alleging crimes that would federal crimes that would be a huge deal. Why do they get away with saying that this is happening or will happen without any proof?

So what exactly is the differentiation between i3/5/7/9 now if it has nothing to do with number of cores or hyperthreading?
