    damn, beat me to it.
this does somewhat prove Linus's view (and mine too) that 1440p displays on stuff like smartphones are useless, because nobody can distinguish the difference anyway.
720p is a bit low, but the fact is that nobody noticed until now, so

Correct me if I'm wrong, there are multiple different ED242QR models, I think the wi is the 75hz one while Abidpx is the 144hz.

Acer's own site is less than clear on this, you can find two different models of the ED242QR but none with the wi suffix.

Context people context. As people points out, it is the context of mass processing that can be paralyzed. GPUs SUCKS at doing logic. An 'if condition' (if this, do that, else do this) is taxing for a GPU. Each SMs or CUDA cores, doesn't have its own set of logic circuit. That is currently impossible to add, else the GPU would be easily as big as an entire wafer of chips. Imagine the mass cooling needed, let alone production cost.

mvitkun reacted to Misanthrope in Which GPU you have for video rendering doesn't matter as long as you have one
This is an important point: From what I've seen there's a wide range of inconsistencies among different editing software. This basically translates to replace "Video Editing Workstation" with "Premiere Workstation", "Vegas Workstation" "Final Cut Workstation" "Hitfilm Workstation" etc.

Basically you can optimize the build for the specific software you'll be using. Sounds like a chore to me but when you start looking into professional software in general this is usually the way it goes: there's similar decisions to be made when building servers for example that are task specific, software specific even software version specific.

LG have had their logo at the bottom for several generations. It's not like they have moved their own logo to make room for B&O. It's just that they have added another logo in a spot that has been left blank on all their other phones.

mvitkun reacted to Flavio hc 16 in [Possibly fake] AMD losing 100+ dollars on every vega sold
guys we all know why this happened:
When nvidia released the gtx 1080 at 700$ that would have been great for amd, they also had a planned release for end 2016/start 2017. We have seen all the gpu of the 10xx series get higher priced than the 9xx series. So in amd mind they were: we are going to sell the rx 56 for 450/500$ and the rx 64 for 600/650$ and that would be a great bargain, especially considering the fact that you can use freesync and they are great for gpgpu stuff.
Then happened something that nobody was expecting: when you could smell that the 1080ti was in the air, at the start of the year, everyone (myself included) could have betted his own mother that the 1080ti was going to launch at 850/900$ so even if Nvidia would have had the "gpu king", but that would have been still ok for amd, because they would have the best performance/dollar on the high end market (not the enthusiast), BUT then nvidia slashed the price of the 1080/1070 and launched the 1080ti at 700$, so Amd did find itself in a tight spot

Holy shit that's a dick move. You don't put out big slides with "new king under 500 dollars!", make all reviewers base their price:performance numbers on a 500 dollar cost, and say "oh the 500 dollar price was just a rebate which has now expired".

you dont want to see the paeroa toilets on a sunday night. no other toilets for at least a 30 min drive. The toilet was blocked and was full of water so i pissed in the drain. What I did not know about these "smart" toilets was they flush themselves when you exit. When a blocked toilet full of water flushes it creates quite a horrifying flood. I ran as fast as I could and I could hear crying from the toilet next door
