rcarteraz reacted to LogicalDrm in Fan Layout Recommendations?
I'd say just put it rear exhaust. 2 front intake and that as exhaust will be enough.
Side question: Why is GPU at bottom PCIe slot? It won't gain anything from there and might even run bit hotter since there isn't direct airflow towards it.
Irrelevant inside PC case.

So it looks like another major DDOS attack is happening. This time it's causing multiple sites to be down by attacking a public DNS service.
It looks like it's affecting some ISP's more than others.
These attacks are getting crazy

rcarteraz got a reaction from No Nrg in Amazon rolls out Amazon Music Unlimited
Amazon Prime Music works for me. Doesn't have everything or as much but it usually has what I want. I don't listen to music too often so it works and doesn't cost anything extra. I'll stick with it.

rcarteraz reacted to Zodiark1593 in H264 to HEVC without quality loss?
I have the Blu Rays, I can rip them again is what I was mentioning. Not re-encoding the stuff already on the hard drive.
I know enough about A/V to know multiple lossy encodes is a horrible idea.

It's for Star Citizen. It's still in production. This is to purchase ship you'll be able to use in-game when released. It's a method they use to help fund the production of the game.

rcarteraz reacted to Wolther in Facebook officially launches 'Workplace'
Facebook has released its Workplace platform, essentially it is a private social network for businesses.
-bbc.com
Undercutting Slack by about $3-5 per user. Appears to be an aggressively growing market.
Provides many features that are similar to Facebook.
I couldn't find out much of why someone would want this but it seems like it could help better the communication in a company.
Already being adopted by many companies.. What are your guys take on this? And do you really think it is a solid way to implement better communication into a company?

rcarteraz reacted to leadeater in Affordable 10GbE NAS with RAID
This very statement shows that you don't have much hands on experience with RAID and listen too much to internet hype/doom train. RAID 5 has been around for a very long time and used by many enterprise organisations in storage arrays of hundreds of disks and there has been almost no cases of this bit rot issue outside of engineered worst case scenarios.
There are a few reasons for this but the main one boils down to, this is exactly what patrol reads are for and to prevent this. RAID cards can also do limited error correction and so can file systems, 1 bit error will never kill an array but many can.
RAID 6 is clearly better but that doesn't mean use it always. It's a balance between protection, usable capacity and number of disks in the array. Don't go creating a 4 disk RAID 6 if it's never going to expand past 8, that is just wasteful and unnecessary.

Capture software causes fps loss, not an issue on a high end system, but if you barley get 60fps then its not good. By using an external capture card you wont drop frames

rcarteraz got a reaction from PlayStation 2 in The Kodi fight has begun
This was bound to happen. Same with anything that is abused/used for a purpose it was not created for. Kodi has been trying very hard to distance themselves from this activity. On numerous occasions they've posted on their website warning of these devices and urging people to report them whenever they see them.

rcarteraz reacted to Sauron in The Kodi fight has begun
Kodi is not a substitute for Netflix, they are different in many ways. Most importantly, Kodi itself does not sell you copyrighted material. You can use it to connect to services similar to Netflix without a browser, but the software by itself is completely free and open source. The "problem" arises if I use a plugin that connects to a website that distributes content illegally, but that's not Kodi's fault.
You could argue that having your box preloaded with such plugins encourages piracy, but we all know it's bullshit. The lost sales argument is bollocks, just like the idea that by installing a plugin (that does something you could do with a browser anyway) somehow makes the guy who installed it responsible for the end user's actions.
