2133MHz is minimum, I don't see a point in going any higher than 2666-2800MHz.

im using a X99 board with 5820k and H100i .keeps it very cool, mine never goes above 70C even at 4.7ghz.

Edit: and that's with the thermal paste it came with

surprised your skyrim performance tanked, make sure your ENB has cloud shadows in enbseries.ini off

that setting alone practically robs 20+ fps on higher resolution setups for so little difference

DoF also scales highly in terms of performance cost once your resolution gets higher - I gave up on ENB DoF and just use Dynavision now

also on enblocal.ini, make sure you turn off v-sync and fpslimit. the driver's g-sync will handle it from now on

also try turning sizescale and somethingsize(they're next to each other) in SSAO down to ~0.5, and that EnableSuperSampling is set to false in [sSAO] as well (because super sampling anything at 4K is....lol)

Those were the tweaks I had to make to every ENB to put performance back up on that monitor/setup

RasAlGhul reacted to NumLock21 in So.. Skylake is here. But is the price premium worth it?
4790K only has 16 lanes that's only enough for 2 graphic cards, and M.2 drives and PCIe SSD are limited to x2 mode. With Skylake it has 16 on the cpu and 20 on the chipset, which gives you a total of 36. Enough for plenty to go around, like 2-way SLI and still have enough lanes for PCIe SSDs. The M.2 on the Z170 runs at x4.

If you live by a microcenter, that's the place to get one.  5820k for $299 in store only.

Intel X99 will have either 28 or 40 pcie lanes for your graphic cards and NVMe ssds. Intel Skylake cpus will only have 16 pcie lanes, but the chipset itself will also provide a additional 20 gen 3 lanes for other devices. The problem is, there is no details as to where the lanes are routed to, are they routed to the PCIe slots or just to the M.2 connectors?

The formula does not have a plx chip. Easiest way to find out is, the board must support 4 way sli.

Maximum number of PCIe lanes on the Z97 is 16, and your graphic cards running in SLI eats up all of it. Z97 boards with PLX chip will provide additional PCIe lanes.

since lga 1150 cpus  only have 16 pcie lanes, you wont be able to run sli and the pcie ssd. sli needs at least 8x to run, and yours cards are 8x each, reaching the max of 16 lanes.

Its not worth upgrading as Broadwell doesn't actually give you enough of a performance increase to justify the cost.

You have exactly 0 reason to upgrade... NONE!
You would just waste your money.
I think that you wont even have reason to upgrade to Skylake if you are on Haswell now. Unless you need Extreme platform for whatever reason.

X99 would mean you needed to get a new CPU too (and new RAM), Z97 is... not worth it for you right now.
I would stick with what you have right now

I'd say keep the Swift . 4k is ok in games , but garbage in OS . 1440p will look bad on a 4k monitor because of interpolation .

Also you won't have the smoothness of 144hz .
