Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying "pee see muckzurd racist!111!1one111!!!!!1", but this is more of a personal rant, more about this generation than anything else.
Now without further ado, let's get onto the rant.
The first thing I want to talk about is the games. Or really, lack of this generation so far.
Around this time of the generation on the PS and Xbox, we would see more of the big guns coming out. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Halo 3 come to mind. But really, nothing like that has happened this generation. All we've really seen are disappointing AAA games, The Witcher 3 notwithstanding. What do I mean by this? Games don't feel like they're getting better, moreso we're relying on the same shit to obfuscate the stagnation in game creation. A fine example of this is Driveclub or Battlefront Hardline, both selling themselves on hype and really only hype. The former kinda tried to be GRID and Gran Turismo at the same time while forgetting what both of those series serve, and the latter really only sold itself on actors and brand name.
Next, I gotta talk about how the consoles function. Simply put, they're too clunky. The PS4 and Xbox One both have unneededly stuffed interfaces which makes them slow. Granted, they're getting better, but not that better. The whole point of consoles is to be simple.
Nexxxtttttt, and this isn't really a problem of the consoles moreso the games themselves, is that they sell themselves then buttfuck you with DLC (I'm looking at you, Destiny and Evolve). I understand that DLC can do good, and when games actually use them properly (Grand Theft Auto IV and The Witcher 3, once again), it's a worthwhile buy that's GONNA make you come back for more, not deprived of content, but leaving you with another tasty hypothetical meal. This is a problem that, while it developed in the last generation, spread like a fucking cancer this gen. This is something I'm touching in, with a more different premise, on my upcoming PC rant.
Now one of the most important things I want to touch up on is split-screen, or, lack thereof. Now, I'm not complaining about games that don't have split-screen where it's understandable (Fallout 4, Battlefield 4/Hardline). I'm talking about the games that try to bullshit their way out of split-screen (*cough* HALO 5). Sadly, this is occuring more often. It doesn't sound like a big issue until you actually think a bit into it. Hell, there's games where you wouldn't think split-screen would work (Driver San Francisco, Star Wars Battlefront) but they have it and it's integrated surprisingly well.
Lastly, I wanna talk about the overreliance on online services to provide a full experience (I have a full damn list for this, but Star Wars Battlefront and Halo 5 are the biggest offenders). Now, I understand that a game might originally be built around multiplayer, which is why I'm giving Battlefield 4 a pass on this. But it seems that more ganes are getting to the point of ridiculous online features (Just Cause 3). This is probably the weakest point here but eh.
Anything I should explain more, or touch up? Wanna *arbitrary activity*? Comment here!
