This is kind of the fatal flaw of the SE. The tiny battery really doesn't take much to degrade by a noticeable degree. Even if the average power consumption isn't high, the peaks probably wreak some havok over time.

What degrades the battery (for the most part) is charge cycles, and the SE doesn’t go through cycles significantly faster than the other devices. In spite of the smaller battery it actually has typically better battery life than the standard 6 or 6S model, owing to smaller power demands (smaller and lower resolution screen, no 3D Touch etc).

Interestingly I’ve noticed significantly more users of the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S and 6S plus suffering from battery degradation. I’m almost positive that Apple started using significantly lower quality Li-Ion batteries from the 6 onwards - my 7 Plus has already lost 12% of charge capacity with around 250 cycles which is a concerningly rapid deterioration in my opinion. Most reports of charge potential I’ve seen on the SE are still in the high 80 to high 90 percent range, which is decent. And also slightly angers me when phones that are a full year older than mine still hold more of their charge. :P

Apple might be pumping more renewable energy back into the grid than they use, sure.

Meanwhile, as already pointed out they continue to pollute the planet through waste by forced obsolescence and hyped consumerism, they continue to employ child labour or labour that has poor living standards in third world nations and something that no one has mentioned yet is the environmental impact the mining of chemicals used in the manufacturing of batteries has on the planet.

Mining Lithium, Nickel, Lead & Cobolt is SUPER bad for the miners and the planet, not only do the processes release some really gnarly chemicals into the environment but the toxic nature of the elements means the miners very often get sick and die very young.

This is a publicity stunt, nothing more. I guarantee if Apples environmental ethics were put under any form of actual scrutiny they'd collapse, fast & hard.

I've always found it a bit of an odd criticism when people say "they're guilty of exploiting child labour and polluting the environment" of Apple and Apple alone. In isolation it's true yes, but you're ignoring the fact that Apple's competitors are pretty much all comparably guilty, some likely even more so. If you're going to criticise any one of them you should criticise them all in relation to their respective levels of guilt.

It's also a bit odd to criticise Apple of all companies for engaging in "forced obsolescence". By and large their post-launch software and hardware support is considerably better than average; the now 5 and a half year old iPhone 5S still runs the newest version of iOS 11 and now that the early issues with it have been dealt with most users still seem satisfied with how the phone performs. They even continue to offer hardware repair options for devices all the way back to the iPhone 4S - can you say the same of Samsung, LG or any of the other big name competitors?

Apple are an imperfect company with an arrogance problem they need to work on. Their software development side has been deteriorating for a good few years now and their internal development culture is reputed to be phenomenally toxic. They definitely need to improve in many ways... but product lifespans and post-launch support aren't amongst them.

Is this really tech news though.....

“Tech News” covers a massive subject area, and video games are entirely technological in nature. ESports are an important and ever-growing part of the gaming industry, and as such a noteworthy part of the tech industry.

If you ever feel that a topic doesn’t belong in the section though please use the report system to bring it to the mod team’s attention rather than pointing it out in the thread; we know how to handle it, and we can take care of it as needed. It is our job after all. ;)

Xbox 360 was IBM too, a fugly one lol. Wii and Wii U were also IBM but most important of all how could you forget about Pippin?!?!?

Yeah, the Wii was pretty much just an upgraded GameCube. And the Wii U was also just an upgraded Wii on the CPU front... and was also an odd one because it was sort of a half-generation console? It launched way too late into the 360 / PS3 gen to compare to them, but much too early (and far too weak) to compare with the PS4 and XOne.

    What the hell was Pippin

One of the greatest successes in Apple's history.

    Oh, right.

Well I would say consoles usually have custom IBM hardware in them ;) Only one generation so far with AMD.

Only one complete generation so far with IBM too, though. :P

The original Xbox used a customised Pentium III, and the PS2's Emotion Engine was based on a MIPS R5900. Though the GameCube did use an IBM PowerPC chip.

    New Reddit design is disgusting.

I didn't know there was a new design. If it follows what they did with the beta profile pages a while ago I probably won't like it.

  7. I'm a beer guy myself, especially love Belgian beers. Duvel, Chimay Blue, Westvleteren 12, St. Bernardus Abt. 12, Waterloo, Tripel Karmeliet, those are some of my favourites... it's pretty rare for me to come across a Belgian beer I don't love. :D

I was not defending xQc behaviour by any means. I am condemning Blizzard's way of addressing the problem as a whole, not the single case of xQc. I am completely aware that he, as a representer of OWL and Dallas Fuel, was completely in the wrong by making homophobic and racist remarks.

The reason for which I did not like how the case of xQc was treated was because it led to him leaving the competitive scene altogether (for now at least). I can see why you would say that he should not be exempt from that as footballers etc. got fired in the past for those reasons, but we are talking about a league that is still in its infancy and that already has competitive balance problems between teams. Dallas Fuel now is not in the position to compete, leading to lower interest in watching matches being played by them. At the same time I could argue that it's Dallas Fuel fault as they fired him, instead of Blizzard themselves, but chances are that there is a close relationship between the teams and the league (I would be worried if there wasn't) and Blizzard must have been in the position to influence Dallas decision to fire xQc.

What else could they have done, though? A mere slap on the wrist would seem inconsequential, his behaviour was out of line and he needed to face some kind of consequence for it. It's a shame for Dallas Fuel but I don't think there was another option. If they'd have kept him on in the team and let him keep competing he'd have continued generating negative publicity not only for Dallas Fuel but the Overwatch League (and by association Blizzard) too, and that would arguably have done a lot more harm in the long term.

Anyway, I am mainly concerned with Blizzard's attempt to tackle down toxicity among "normal" players, not professionals. When I was talking about "toxicity" in my previous post I meant players that would write stuff in chat such as "get gud", "learn to play", "you are bad" (or whatever childish remark I often see across games such as OW, CSGO, etc.), not homophobic/racist comments (those should be always a more than good reason to ban players). I feel like Blizzard is trying to stop players from making comments that are taken as seriously toxic by others, while they should be simply disregarded instead of being taken as an insult.

    I can't agree with you there. :P

People who want to play the game should be free to do so without needing to face an onslaught of personal attacks and insults. Comments like "learn to play" and "uninstall" are insults, criticising the player for their performance and trying to make them feel bad; it's fine for friendly banter between friends, but when flippantly shouted at people you don't know it's definitely negative behaviour. Why should it be allowed, and why shouldn't people be expected to use a bit of self control and not act like a dick towards other players? By allowing that type of behaviour you're saying it's acceptable, and if you're saying it's acceptable you're only encouraging it to proliferate throughout the community.

It's also fairly normal for online games with text and or voice chat to suspend or ban players for that type of behaviour, competitive or otherwise, so it's not like what they're doing is unusually harsh or punitive.

Yeah, I didn't like how they handled that situation either. But him being kicked out of the league was Dallas Fuel's fault... Well, they lost their best player and main tank lol.

I don't like how Blizzard is handling "toxicity" in general. I don't like toxicity and I *think* I am not toxic (I tend to ignore the chat altogether unless it's about stuff like strategy), but trying to remove toxicity from a competitive game is impossible.

Where there is competition, there is something to lose (be it a tournament prize or skill rating), and where there is something to lose, there is toxicity. I think it's normal. There are toxic players in football etc.

Blizzard is trying to do the impossible and is losing out on most of its fanbase who cannot be bothered to witness to childish arguments and losing out on good players to spectate.

That's not an excuse at all though. Just because you're in a competitive environment doesn't excuse homophobic or racist behaviour - he made a blatantly homophobic remark which he directed at an openly gay player. If he didn't face consequences for his actions, what would there be to discourage others from engaging in similar or even worse behaviour in future? Professional footballers have been fired in the past for making sexist, racist or homophobic remarks - I don't see why eSports players should be exempt from similar consequences to their actions.

I feel one of the big issues with Blizzard's approach to eliminating toxicity at the moment is that they're only looking for ways to punish negative behaviour but don't reward players for positive behaviour. Games like League of Legends have seen some improvements in community behaviour after implementing reputation systems, so perhaps that's something Blizzard should look into for Overwatch.

yay! my idea worked, were pinned.

so i took my two riser gpus out my main rig and now my vega is giving me this error,

    22:34:15:WU04:FS01:0x21:ERROR:NaNs detected in forces. 0 0

No idea what to do at all.

    @Whiskers you any idea?

@givingtnt was it I that convinced you?

EDIT: with just the VEGA it didn't work, with all four GPUs in it works fine. I tried Vega and one gtx card, nope. But when I at the two other cards, it works fine. I even reinstalled F@H.

I've no experience of folding with AMD cards I'm afraid, I've only ever used NVIDIA so I have no idea what to suggest. Bit bizarre that it works when more GPUs are connected but not by itself or with one other, though.

I just started to Fold and submitted my first 21 WU request, but have not received any response.

I am finding it fascinating, and I hope that we can get the team back ojn track.

Sorry about that, I've been a bit busy over the last few weeks. Your badge has been updated now. :)

@iamdarkyoshi Is there anyway we could create a badge for those that take part in the event. Like you have to fold a certain number of WUs in the 7 days t get the badge?

EDIT, I dont mind designing the badge to make it easier on you guys if that helps. @palespartan

I'm afraid not, at least this time around. If the event continues again next year though it's definitely something I'd like to do.

    Neither do these:

If there is a problem with a thread, use the report button to alert the mod team. Taking it upon yourself to tell the OP what to do is considered backseat moderation. At the very least if you're going to do it (which we'd prefer you not to), at least try not to be a dick about it. ;)
