Go to overlcocking, then DRAM Frequency and set it to 1866, it will do the rest for you.

There may be an XMP option, turn it on and select 1866mhz

Do you also have XMP enabled in your BIOS? That will set your ram to run at the max speed (for you 1866MHz)

Flashie reacted to Oshino Shinobu in Data transfer - is it supposed to be this "wonky"?
Well, I've had a similar pattern to that with some file transfers. I've also had ones that go fast, then stop for a few seconds, then start up again.

While it's not exactly normal, it isn't really uncommon.

It copies to the cache in the beginning, thats why it's fast and then the cache fills up and it has to actually start writing the data to the flash chips.

Yeah I have fans on top of my case but wish I could put the radiator out there. Only way to do that is with a custom loop though

When I had my first computer I got from my dad I decided to buy some UV lights (these: )

And I had NO idea how to plug them in so I (for some unknown reason) just decided to plug it in where it looked like it was supposed to be, I can't remember what I did but I connected something to the motherboard and I ended up setting the motherboard on fire when starting the computer, and the fire from the mobo burnt the GPU, so I went to the PC Repair shop and they told me they couldn't fix it then they wanted 100$ bucks just for telling me that, so I ended up never returning to get the PC back and paying the 100 bucks.

I also bought these kind of lights about 6 months ago and I took about 30 minutes to plug them in just because I was still scared of setting my PC on fire, even though this incident was many years ago.

Last year in my engineering class we had to work with breadboards to try to get an LED to light up. It prove very challenging for one of my friends, who managed to burn countless resistors in the process.

I thought thumb screws were for the motherboard and stripped all the standoffs and got them stuck in the standoffs so my motherboard had thumbscrews stuck in it

I plugged the two case fan headers the wrong way and thought for 2 weeks, damn my pc is very silent until I looked into the side panel and realised the case fans were not spinning.

My worst mistake must have been starting to invest into my PC. It is such a big money magnet and I haven't spent money on anything but electronics for the past 4 years.

Did routine cleaning of my PC. Long story short - i forgot to replace the thermal paste, and had only noticed 50 minutes later after running GTA that i'd forgotten to put some thermal-paste back on

No, not unless it has a mixture of 100BASE-T and 1000BASE-T ports (which is uncommon), or if it is a managed switch that has been set up to specifically prefer certain ports. Neither of those situations is likely in your case.

Logically, it seems like port 1 should be the best, but it really makes no difference, especially with unmanaged switches (what the router's switching will probably be). I still find myself putting priority devices in the first ports, just because #1 normally means the best for other things, but isn't the case for networking.

There's not much you can do about it, as the IP is set on his computer, not the router. You could sift around the settings to see if you can disallow static IPs, but not many routers support that option.

You could try tuning off the router for a few minutes, then turning it back on. Depending on your ISP and connection type, you may get a new WAN IP.

You could try to tell him that using the same IP as the WAN IP is potentially dangerous, but by the sounds of things, he'll ignore you.

Yep, it doesn't really matter in terms of speed or reliability, and there's nothing special that he can do with it. The only issue is with security, as he may accidentally reveal your WAN IP. However if someone wants to attack your network, it's really not hard to get your WAN IP anyway, so it's not something you should really worry about.

His address is just the same as any other local address, it just happens to be the same as the WAN IP. I use static IPs for a few devices that never change, but it's for logical structuring, as there's no difference in speed. (My desktop is at 192.168.2.22 because it's easy to remember, for example)

Flashie reacted to dual290x in Setting up a printer via network via laptop
What I did for my house was take a laptop that wasn't being used (had windows 7) and hooked up the printer via usb (only way) and set the printer to shareable. Then I put all the PCs to the same work-group and restarted them. I found the printer being shared on the network, downloaded the drivers, and bam I was printing to the usb only printer. What I am currently having problems with now is getting my MBA to being able to print to it.

If you are an all windows house this won't be a problem. You may have to tinker a little but I didn't have to do much at all. Be sure to set the laptop that will be connected to the printer (via usb) so that it won't go to sleep or hibernate. Let it stay on all day and night. Other wise you will have to (turn on if applicable), log in, and wait for it to receive the information that was shared.

I hope this helps. There is dozens of videos online on how to do this. Check out Microsoft how to videos. They can be a big help sometimes.

What you might be able to use is "Virtual audio cable", set the output of skype to virtual audio cable and the input of TS to Virtual audio cable. This may accomplish what you are trying to do. You might have to find another way to get your mic into both programs.
