Found a video on youtube from six months ago where somebody had the same problem. 
They solved it. Go to driver selection like normal on the AMD website; Vega 56 drivers. Don't download the top one, the win10x64, get the enterprise drivers. Works like a charm.

Edit: DDU to uninstall current drivers and CRU to re-add Freesync to your radeon settings. My Freesync turned off at some point and wouldn't come back on, you gotta use CRU to add Freesync @ 60-144 Hz on your main display.

Ccleaner had their servers hacked at some point, and was serving a spying modification for a while. That is fixed now.

BTW for a quick clean of the disk, there is a "disk clean-up" tool as part of Windows so you can try that first.

That would be the idea to make use of the free-sync you already have. Last rumor was late October, but they have some BIOS things to finalize, that's why the reviews of the ASUS cards that have gone out haven't shown it any better than reference.

Vega 56 is 30 euros more, i think it's better to get with gtx 1070 ti / 1080 then.

Looks like it has free-sync, would suggest waiting for aftermarket Vega cards in that case.
 

It does. But because off mining the prices aren't going to be much lower than the reference once. and a gtx 1080 or 1070 ti is better than a vega 56.

So you can flash Vega 56 to a Vega 64  BIOS and get free performance there, past that with a slight HBM2 OC you can get right in the range of a 1070ti/1080

Aftermarket cards should be even better still depending on how they're built and if they can be flashed as well.

But either way assuming the free-sync on it works well you might end up with a better experience on Vega regardless of performance.
 
 

Oh as a side note it ended up not being the motherboard that failed but the CPU.

well if removing your gpu from it makes it work flawlessly
then its most probably dead
 
best way to check is to run the gpu in another system to verify

GPU boss is highly opinionated, dont listen to it.

I'll get to it when I'll be away from the house for a few days doing work. Not having a computer is, you know, frustrating. 

I am doing a Xeon build myself, if I had to guess I am thinking you are likely running into a motherboard compatibility problem with the motherboard. Here is a list of the supported CPU's for your motherboard, note that none of them are Xeon processors. In order for ECC to work on Xeons it requires some extra stuff on the motherboard, even if you are not going to use ECC ram, the motherboard still needs to be ECC compatible (usually).

Righto, everyone seems to have their own opinion. I personally don't care until there's a good DX12 game that I want. As long as a 290 can run it decently, that's all I want.
