I have been running on a Q6600 build for quite a while now and financial responsibilities have prevented me from building a new system on numerous occassions.  I'm hoping that February/March will finally be my time to build a new PC.  An Intel i7 5820K would make a great start.  I usually like to future-proof my builds as I tend to go a long time between complete overhauls and an X99 build would have quite the longevity.  And what would I do with such a build?  In addition to gaming I can finally take up video editing and also put my under-utilized Samsung 840 Pro to real use.  May random chance favor me.

For what you are looking for, that is probably the best keyboard. Not only does it have large printing, but it also has multiple colors of backlight, so the keys will be very visible.

Luck seems to have everything to do with phone screens. I've seen phones that have sharpened, flat edges and the original screen intact. Other times a drop onto a carpet flat on its back shatters a screen.

s4spencer reacted to Gontier in Do multi-monitor setups give you more viewing space?
Yes it does. With an increased resolution some games give you a larger FOV. I run my surround setup in 5760x1080, very comfortable once you get used to it. Whether playing an MMO up close with mouse and keyboard, or a racing simulator or FPS on the couch with a console. Most games will automatically scale to your default resolution, some games will not support it natively though and it will just be a stretched 1920x1080 picture. You can also play in 1920x1080 and use your other monitors as side monitors no problem. There are lots of tools and easy fixes to mod games. Flawless Widescreen is one of the best programs to help fix issues with old games.

Tomb Raider does support surround. Here's a picture I took:

keep in mind something you seem to have wrong is that vram DOES NOT stack. 780's will give you 3, and 970s will give you 4, regardless of SLI or no SLI

pretty sure they meant 85% as a lot of people are saying 980 outperforms around 10-20%

s4spencer reacted to 79wjd in 780ti or 970? Power, performance and all things considered
780Ti is similar to the 980, while the 780 is still faster than a 970.

    Performance wise:
    980 = 780Ti > 780 = beast overclock on 970 > 970

With that said, 900 series cards will still be easier to SLI since the 700 series has been discontinued, and they also are more efficient as well as support DX12 and MFAA (and have 4gb of VRAM)...so theres that.

Which browser are you using? If you're using chrome it's actually prone to memory leaks at least I have found. If you are using chrome press Shift + Esc in any chrome window and it will bring up the chrome task manager you can sort the tabs by memory amount there and stop their process which will "crash" the tab which you can reload later(this is experience from a tabaholic 2 windows with tons of tabs and my tablet too lol). 4790k is a good choice with its HT(yes games can't use it...yet) but if you're running tabs and video capture and all this other stuff along with your games it'll be nice to have. As for your current mobo it has a high chance of lasting 5 years for sure unless you're really pushing overclocks the big key is keeping everything as cool as possible meaning(dusting it frequently and having ample airflow) . Also your current motherboard has what they call solid caps meaning they are less likely to leak like normal caps and Gigabyte quality is pretty decent.

The G.Skill memory is a good choice I got the same kit in a small nas build I want to do which came from my main computer when I upgraded and it should match with your corsair kit.

No problem for the help, I'm glad to share any knowledge I have.

Personally I would get a TUF series board from ASUS if you want "long life" as your title stated. The board you picked while still good only has a 3yr warranty and ASUS TUF series boards carry a 5yr warranty. That means IF something does happen, which can a year or two later, you know you're at least covered for 5 years. CPU well not much in terms of choice there but run it as cool as you can for longer life. Also a lot of RAM manufacturers offer lifetime warranties.

UPDATE: The stream has been delayed due to circumstances that are beyond our control. The thread will be updated when a new date/time has been confirmed. Thanks for your patience folks!

    So what is this?

This is a very rare opportunity to do a LIVE Q&A session with one of the folks who worked on the Haswell-E line of CPUs from Intel. He and Linus have connected already briefly and aside from trade secrets, you guys are welcome to ask any questions you want about the product, the development cycle, and what it's like behind the scenes working on an important product like this at Intel!

Alejandro Hoyos, Product Marketing Engineer at Intel will be joining us for a Q&A and suggestion session on [DATE/TIME TO BE DETERMINED]

Click here to find out what time it is in your time zone

This will be a great opportunity to talk about your ideas, ask questions, and give feedback on this exciting new product.

Not only that, but we'll be giving away TWO Intel Haswell-E CPUs on the show... Because Intel is sending us the CPUs and putting us in charge of shipping the prizes, the giveaway will be INTERNATIONAL.

It will be streamed at http://twitch.tv/linustech, and the giveaway we're running is for LIVE VIEWERS ONLY.

The main topic of the stream is basically up to you guys and we'd love to see you post your ideas in this thread ahead of time so we can figure out how to structure this to make it as entertaining and educational as possible!

We want this to be a lot of fun and super interactive, so please post your ideas in this forum thread. Linus will definitely be taking more suggestions during the show as well, but it's great to have a starting point.. Folks who post in the thread versus trying to get their questions featured live *will* have a bit of an advantage!

How do I win the swag?

The winner will be chosen randomly from the live viewers of the stream during a random period, so make sure you're paying attention!

Make sure you're registered for Linus Tech Tips forum and signed in while you're watching the live stream Make sure you're watching from somewhere that you'll have access to a browser Tune into the stream right at the beginning and make sure you're paying attention!
