Please share your biggest positive tech suprise (something you thought was going to be mediocre or suck but was actually really good) and your biggest negative tech suprise (something you thought was going to be amazing but actually was epic fail)

here's mine:

Positive:

ME Electronics M6, http://www.amazon.com/MEElectronics-Sport-Fi-Isolating-In-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0038W0K2U

Bought these for $20 on amazon to go to the gym with because I didn't want to bring expensive IEMs into the gym, they fit well, stayed in my ears, and sound great considering the price.

Negative:

Oculus Rift DK2

Spent almost $500 on these (shipped and dutied). It's fun don't get me wrong, but it gave me motion sickness like no tomorrow; it's far to heavy for prolonged use; the focusing mechanism is terrible; and even at 1080p the "screen door effect" is still... unfortunate.

Positive: A new keyboard and mouse made a surprisingly large difference to how my PC feels to use overall.

Negative: The acrylic window on the Fractal Design Node 804 is far too easy to scratch  :(

(Speaking of which, does anyone know of any way to remove scratches from clear acrylic?)

Positive: Linux desktop- waaaaaaaaaay less scary and far more functional than what some people make it up to be.

Negative: Linux desktop- despite all it's positives, I still can't use it as a day-to-day OS. It just doesn't have the apps I need. Nowhere near as complete as some people make it out to be.

Positive: I got sent a 24 inch monitor when I ordered a 21.5" :)

Negative: my sh*t HP mouse died today... My desktop's out until my Logitech M500 comes in the mail. 3-5 business days. Read my sig and you see the problem with not using the computer for 3-5 business days....

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Positive: Trinity APUs (good enough budget gaming system without a dedicated graphics card)

Negative: Trinity APUs  (that stock fan is almost louder than my vacuum cleaner)

Positive: Windows 10 is incredibly stable, much more so than 7. My display driver hasn't crashed once since switching, in which time using windows 7 it would have failed at least twice.

Negative: 1600MHz is not enough for an APU.

Windows 10 is stable because it's a "technical preview," IE, based off of the last OS made by Microsoft with a skin on top of it.

Same went for the Windows 8 technical preview. It was Windows 7 with a skin, meaning that there wasn't much to screw up.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

WIN: Win8 actually saved my old laptop. Win8 IS designed for weak hardware after all.

Positive: Windows 8.1, it's just like Windows 7 with extra features when you get used to it.

Negative: Pentium 4 coolers. The Pentium 4 only outputs like 95W, but it still runs at 75 degrees celsius and loud with a huge Zalman "Quiet" cooler.

IDE hard drives. When you lose a jumper, you're gonna have a hard time. And these huge ribbon cables!

Laptop: Intel Core i5-4200H, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, GeForce 840M

Desktop: Intel Core i3-6100, 8GB RAM, 750GB HDD, GeForce GTX 750 Ti
