TheVoiceofExile got a reaction from leadeater in Issues installing VMware ESXI 6.0
    SOLUTION FOUND:

We contacted ThinkMate Technical Support (that's where we purchased this from) and they elevated the the ticket to a Level 2 item. We received a call back from a man named Jack who helped us run through some checks. It turned out that there is a JPL1 Jumper that controls (physically) the VGA output from the mainboard. This jumper is hidden away from all other jumpers and is underneath the X9DRG PCIe expansion board. After verifying that VGA output was enabled in the bios (because we can still see the bios through one of the 970s), and VGA priority was set to ONBOARD, we shutdown the system and switch the jumper to enable the output. Once everything was back together and a few reboots occurred (the machine did it not us), we had VGA output from the machine and were able to remove the Nvidia Cards. Booting up from our ESXI 6.0 disc, the installer came up beautifully and remained up through the entire installation. Once installation was completed ESXI booted normally and we were able to see the Host from our vSphere client to begin configuration.

    TL;DR
Physical jumper was in wrong place even though everything was correct. Took out cards and moved jumper over, fixed problem.

Thanks to TheSpaz and leadeater for their advice.

P.S. In case anyone cares, ThinkMate was actually the ones that switched the jumper originally when we sent the machine in for other support. So it might have just been a giant prank the whole time, idk.

what kind if network are you running it on.

Ive seen Esxi hang at boot because is searching the network for scsi storage controller like a NAS.

I would try unplugging all the other storge devices until you get a successful. It sounds like its getting confused with a piece of hardware taking that expansion board out might not be bad idea

Couple of things to try. First make sure all firmware is updated to the latest possible. Secondly try ESXi 5.5 to see if it is just an issue with ESXi 6.0, it's still rather new.

Also contact supermicro support, they will be able to give some support even it is only to get the onboard video going. I would install using the onboard video before trying to get any add-on cards working.

Yeah, someone was selling it through my University's craiglist facebook page. He also had a Corsair H60 for 10 bucks but my air cooler totally beats it in benchmarks so I didn't bother.

PC Part picker estimates 758W, so looks like I'm good by 100 watts. That's with 2 280Xs which have a higher power draw than 1 280X and 7950. Cool beans. Thanks guys for helping me out.

You'll be plenty good, Newegg's calculator is probably designed to make people buy bigger, and more expensive PSUs.

Put your parts in PCpartpicker. Check the wattage average that gives you. It's pretty accurate.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I decided to go with this one Langdon suggested due to the deal and covering all the grounds of things I am after. Other than the same response time and refresh rate I feel as though this will be a large upgrade in terms of viewing experience. I'm looking forward mostly to the fact I've heard it can do 72-75hz without overclocking via Titans, and that is my personal favorite range for refresh rate. Not including the fact there is 10% off and 20 dollars in mail-in-rebates for a heck of a deal. I'll be getting 2 of these and I'll let everyone know how my first experience with IPS panels go. Might even right a story about it for the forums. Thanks again gais

Get an IPS panel, the colours look much better. Response time does not matter that much either, plus many companies measure response time differently.

If you are going to buy a 60Hz monitor, get an IPS. At least you'll enjoy your game with a more immerse feeling with the much better color reproduction. Also you get to enjoy improved sharpness, and wide view angle, allowing you to perfectly see your screen, no mater ho your sit, or where you are (beside behind the monitor)

TheVoiceofExile got a reaction from Vitalius in AtheneWins Giveaway
Hi everyone! I just wanted to spread some news of a great guy doing some great things for the dying children around the world.

His name is Athene and he plays League of Legends. He streams here: http://www.twitch.tv/athenelive/profile. And ALL sub money, advertising money, and any donations go to CHARITY. It is great. Together they have raised over 4 million dollars so far.

I know there may be some past memories of Athene back when he was really toxic and whatnot, but he has changed. He really cares about what he does, and is working day in and day out to raise his 5 million (5,000,000 USD) dollar goal for charity. I'm not asking you guys to donate, but just to do me a favor.

Right now he is hosting a giveaway. The only thing you need to do to receive an entry is get a friend or someone you know to subscribe and post a comment saying who sent you.

So the favor I am asking is go to this video:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMbE3o9Uqs0&list=WLEC4AF54F7B677CCF

Subscribe to Athene to help support him and his goals, because I mean saving dying children around the world with video games? Who couldn't love that?

It would be great if you let him know in the comments that I sent you there, something like "TheVoiceofExile sent me", and I would love it even more if you guys decide to help Athene and his goal (no pressure you don't have to either).

Hopefully we can indirectly team up the LinusTechTips forums with Athene and help him reach his goal. Just remember that your ONE subscribe can save hundreds of starving and dying children world wide.

    Thank you all for reading

Would be around $150-200 if you got 2 externals and used either software raid or found a usb raid card. (Which I have never seen)

    Just a suggestion.

For a good reason. USB doesn't have enough bandwidth for hard drives. The hard drives themselves are over the budget, and the NAS would cost more.

    1) It depends on how heavily threaded the applications you are running on your computer. For example: video rendering, editing, or cad work is going to leverage the extra cores that a CPU might have. So in that case, AMD is the way to go. Not to mention that the 8350 is way cheaper than the intel.
Intel has faster single threaded performance. This means that the 3570K/4670K will likely be better for modern games (assuming that modern games won't use more than four cores). However, with the new consoles coming out, both having eight core CPU's, games might start to utilize more threads and cores for CPUs.
Last thing on the CPUs, I have the same motherboard as you. I bought it with an FX8150 and I was stoked to have a fast processor like that. Next month, the 8350 was released. I was not happy about that. If I was you, I would either wait to catch a good deal on a haswell CPU or wait for steamroller.
    2) Any of those choices would do if I was you unless you go with a large air cooler.
    3) if I was looking at an air heatsync, I would look at the be quiet! Dark Rock 2.
Here is an urn boxing featuring the one, the only linus Sebastian!
As well as the Phanteks Thermal Solutions PH-TC14PE
As you can see linus was stunned by the epic finishes on both of those coolers.
    4) I honestly can't comment here. I have a single 7950 and it runs everything I want it to at max settings.
    5) hard drives are hard drives.
7)I suggest you take a look at the neutron GTX from corsair. Anything goes though. The corsair sad has a blue/black colour scheme.
    8) 850W will be more than enough to power two 7970s. That particular power supply is a really good one too. Corsair has some of their powersupplies made by seasonic and believe me they are some of, if not the best powersupplies on the market. I have an AX 850 The fan dose not spin up unless you are gaming essentially ( 30% load).
Anyways, if I was you I would go with the 8350as they represent a value that intel is having a hard time beating at this price point. Not to mention you would be able to afford one of those air coolers Linus liked. That might make him look at your build and say, "Hey! I unboxed that!" And give you bonus points.

Go for the 8350. Switching to intel won't be that substaintial. Once you get to the i5/83xx's cpu speeds, bottlenecking gpus become less relevant since those cpus are quite fast.

Different brands and ram don't really perform differently--they're pretty much all the same. It's just the specs and overclockability that differentiates them but an CL9 1600 memory will do. Basically, RAM IS RAM.

The WD caviar blue/seagate barracuda are in all practicality, the same drive and costs the same. Depending on where your shopping, one will be cheaper than the other.

Unless, the ssd will be used as a scratch disk, the normal Samsung 840 is a great performer at a good price--you can skip the pro.

The 7950 is a better deal than the 7970 with similar performance. When both overclocked, the 2 cards are pretty close. Also, a 750w should do for a 79507970 crossfire but a 800w will leave headroom for the 7970's. I'm talking about bronze psu's here--no need to get silvers, golds, or platinums.
