Arduino Vs Raspberry pi 2, which and what to di with it?

Mikealongo

Hi everyone, i want to know what do you guys think about Arduino or Raspberry pi 2,, which one is better, what pack should y buy, what cool things you can do with them, and tutorials or something like that.

Thanks =)

Raspberry pi is more capable than the arduino in my opinion

OFF TOPIC: I suggest every poll from now on to have "**CK EA" option instead of "Other"

Both work well, The Raspberry pi however is more learning centric and has a bigger community, so depending on ho much you know already and how many tutorials you want is why you'd pick one over the  other.

I have no idea, im a noob xD so in my case is better the raspberry because of the comumunity?

The raspberry pi is a arm based single board computer. As such it is better suited to applications where you need the power or the linux os. The arduino is just a microcontroller and as such it does not use an os. The arduino is better for interfacing with other electronic circuitry than the raspberry pi, but is not capable of the computer tasks that the pi is. Which one is better depends entirely on what you want to do with it. For examples I have a couple of arduinos being used in robotics projects while I have a raspberry pi that I am using as a NAS with a couple of usb hard drives.

You are comparing oranges to apples.

Raspberry pi's are embedded linux platform to run advanced software/display things (and a lot more)

Arduino is a microcontroller to directly interface with hardware such as sensors, switches, relays, etc..

You can't compare them, yes one can (sometimes) do the job of the other but it's not made to do that and will just be a pain in the ass to work with.

Best case scenario; Use both to make an advanced software that interact with hardware.

Well in my case, i know nothing about programing or electronycs (im studying economics xD) nut i want to play a little bit and both are really cheap.

I dont know which of them will be more "enjoyable" for me.

Tell us want you want to do with them. Ill give you examples.

You wan't to have a local web server / file server / media server ? Raspberry

You wan't to make a mini weather station ? Arduino

You wan't to make you garage door open from your cellphone ? Arduino + Raspberry

Wan't a touchscreen display ? Raspberry

Wan't to be able to manipulate electrical stuff ? Arduino

Ideally, you would get both and use them in tandem. They're far more versatile combined than separate.

The problem is that i dont know what i want to do, maybe because i dont know whar are they able to do xD

but i dont want a web/media or file server xD

Maybe to lerarn something new, like programing or something practical hahaha

I would say the Raspberry Pi in your case then grab an Arduino later on since you can use them together in larger project, the Pi is much better to start with IMO

YOU FORGOT THAT THe raspberry pi has GPIO pins

They're not really for the same purpose. The Arduino is best used integrated into other circuits used as control whereas the Raspherry Pi is capable of doing more considering it's much more powerful and can run many systems.

No I did not. Embedded platforms GPIO's are fragile, need more electrical work to be done with them to be able to make them work without trouble. Also includes drivers and some programming with compilers to do. Knowing that the OP is a starter in this domain the Arduino is way easier to learn to interface with hardware than the Pi.

Look at some tutorials on hack a day or other projetcs blog, we can tell you the best way to achieve what you want after. In both cases, learning the basic of programming will be necessary.

personally a fan of the raspberry pi,  use it for my home AirPlay Server for my iPhone and MacBook

I have used the Pi for many other projects including a personal mobility device, and a "Pandora's Pi"

I just think the Pi is easier to work with
