OCing ram over specs?

Could i like let's say overclock a ddr3 1333mhz to like 1600mhz even if it was made to run at 1333mhz?

Reason being i heard that ram speeds heavily influences FPS for fallout 4 and my i7 4770 and r9290x is kinda performing quite badly for FO4 (im lagging when i view commonwealth at a certain angle, other than that im pretty okay in the FPS department)

yes you could, however ram can become quite unstable when OC'ed, but it is defintely possible

I've heard RAM frequency really mattered in FO4. Don't imagine it has been proven yet though.

http://wccftech.com/fallout-4-performance-heavily-influenced-by-ram-speed-according-to-report/ apparently it does heavily influence the performance of FO4, did not know this since i dont have the game. however they ran their ram at 2400 mHz for not too much improvement considering your OC your RAM to get it. at 1333 MHz i would only try for 1600 so you dont fry your ram sticks

Just OCed it to 1600mhz! Is there any software you recommend for stress testing?

you have an msi board, do you have Intel Extreme Tuner? that has a memory stress tester in it, never tried it though because i never oc my ram. AIDA64 is a good one if your willing to pony up the money for it, but Intel Extreme Tuner is free with MSI Intel boards (at least mine and my friends 2 boards) so use that one

Could pony up and sell your old sticks for these. It's what I've used. Could easily OC them 2400MHz CL9-11-11-30-CR1 but gotta up the voltage a bit.

Hmmm so far it seems stable at 1600mhz while i was playing fallout4... Didnt really see an improvement for FPS

Above 1600 you wont notice much difference anyways, you could push higher but you would probably have to either loosen the ram timings (go higher with the numbers) or increase voltage or both. What would be better is if you have 1600 stable, then attempt to tighten the timings. For instance...

 

1333 ram at 8-8-8-24 overclocked to 1600 if stable... tighten timings to 7-7-7-21 or 7-8-7-21
