<Name Undecided>Jonsbo U2 ITX, R9 Nano, Full Custom Hardline Loop in 16 liters!

Khazzirh

Hey everyone,

It's time for another build, and once again I'm going for a high-powered, yet tiny machine with custom hardline watercooling. Previous projects pretty much sums up my addiction to the SFF-type systems..:

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/180789-lil-bastard-custom-watercooled-250d/

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/387105-red-impact-phanteks-evolv-itx-maximus-impact-vii-fury-x-custom-hardline-waterloop/

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/173808-blue-bit-watercooled-bitfenix-prodigy-itx/

This new project will by far be my smallest one yet, built in the case Jonsbo U2, an incredibly small case, but as I see it, full of opportunities! The layout seems great for a full-fledged system, albeit with "smaller" components (not that this should affect the performance of the system with the parts I'm planning)  :P

This is the planning so far. Keep in mind that I have to think small, and while suggestions are welcome, the case somewhats limits the options:

Case: Jonsbo U2

CPU: i7-6700K

Mobo: Asus Z170i Pro Gaming

PSU: Silverstone Strider SX600-G

GPU: R9 Nano

Memory: Kingston HyperX Savage

SSD 1: Samsung 950 Pro M.2 256 GB

SSD 2: Samsung 850 EVO

SSD 3: Samsung 850 EVO

Rad 1: EK 120 SE

Rad 2: EK 240 SE

Fans: Scythe slip Stream 120

Tubing: Monsoon

Res/Pump: EK Revo D5

CPU Block: EK

GPU Block: EK Fury Nano Full Cover

The parts with the (?) behind them are still a bit undecided, and suggestions are welcome, just keep in mind the above  ;) As Red Impact is currently my main rig, the components in this one might change if I decide to keep this one as my secondary LAN-rig. The above components are likely if this one becomes my main rig, which it might just very well become.

4k.jpg

So, this is the case! Just a random photo of the internet for now, but I will get some of the real deal when I get home, along with the radiators, showing the space a little bit.

The theme is going to be radioactive (yes, its been done, but I like it), with either yellow or green to contrast the black. So far I'm leaning towards yellow, but we shall see  :)

The idea is to mod the front to create an intake for the 240-rad, as to get the proper airflow for the components seems unlikely otherwise, and I like to have a good front-to-back airflow through the case.

Other than that I feel the case gives me the options I need, and it will be interesting to see if that is actually the case (pun intended  :D ) as well  :)

No compromises! (Hopefully  :P )

Alright, a bit slower than promised, but that happens when life comes in the way sometimes  :)

Ordered the R9 Nano, as I found one on Black Friday with a 37% discount, which was awesome  :D Expecting that to arrive sometime this week. Also ordered the EK Waterblock and backplate for it, along with a tiny Bitspower reservoir.

Anyways, will follow up with some pictures when I get those later this week  :) For now, here are the pictures of the current gear:

I've stripped the interior of all the parts I could remove to keep it clean, and I will probably end up using some other stuff than what was stock anyways. Also attached the plate for the SFX power supply.

The slim rads from EK are just great in this case, and saves alot of valuable space  :P

Love that case - saw an amazing-looking PCPP build with the silver version a while back.

Can't wait to see what you'll do with it!

Funny thing is, mine is actually smaller, as that is the U3 it seems  :P  But thanks, its gonna turn out pretty great I hope  :)

Tiny form factor watercooled build? Subbed!

The best form factor in my opinion, or at least the one that poses by far the most fun challenges to build in

So, for now I am having a bit of an issue with the color, as the ASRock X99 motherboard is pretty blue, and in all honesty, I really dislike having to paint the motherboard, and that one doesn't come cheap either..

Was hoping for a black and blue or a black and yellow build, but I don't know, maybe for simplicity I'll keep it black and blue.. Otherwise I have to revert to Z170 motherboard, and that just doesn't have the same POW! that the X99 does

Opinions on the matter are welcome  :)

A little update for today...

The R9 Nano arrived! Such a cute little card  :)  But then again, everything in this build seems cute  :P

Some pictures of the little beauty that doesn't do it justice at all  :)

Waiting for the waterblock for it, it's gonna be good!  :D

I have also bought some 6mm thick acrylic, and I'll try and make my own reservoir. Plenty of awesome spaces in the case to have a res, but it's not exactly the kind of res you would find stock, as it would be very much built for this case  ;)

Alright, a couple of more pictures to keep your interest :)

I got the waterblock for the Nano, and have begun modding the case a bit. Tried starting on the reservoir as well, but my equipment might make it a bit difficult. Have a backup that you see in the pictures, that also fits pretty well. We'll see :)

Also, the motherboard is on its way, ended up with an Asus Z170i Pro Gaming.

On to the pictures :)

Started the modding:

C48ECF94-1E20-49FF-8248-7E09CB9FAACE_zps

No fans for the 240 rads aren't there yet, so it's gonna be another 12 mm of space taken up in the front. Plenty of space though, so it's fine :)

Never mind the scuffs, the modding is obviously not finished, as there are no vents on the front yet :P

Loving the Nano with the new waterblock as well!

Looks really cool after it has been converted to single-slot:

The R9 nano is such a niche product I'm surprised EK made a block for it!

This system is going to be so nice, I am working on an i7+970 system (first REAL pc build, I've moved my old core 2 duo system and upgraded it in new cases, ram, etc.)

That hardline will be super hard to do but hopefully it turns out nice!

Also, since you've already spent in excess of $1000, I recommend you try to go with a large Samsung 850 PRO (1 or 2tb) so you don't need to deal with mechanical drive noise and poor performance.

Yeah, me too, but I'm really happy they did, and it looks great as well :)

Was considering a 970 as well, as it has the short PCB, but the Nano was on sale, so that decided it.

Gonna be a pretty hard loop to build yeah, but that is part of the fun :P

Im actually considering the new M.2 950, so neither of those should be an issue :P

I still suggest getting a 512gb 950 m.2 as your boot and maybe a 2tb 850 pro as your data disk :)

The nano and short pcbs will be amazing looking with everything else and it will totally look amazing

Power limit. Still a very capable card.

Nice build!

Got the motherboard, and started some "modding" on it, and also did some modding to the case. Couple of pictures to keep the interest up :)

Ignore the terrible cuts here, as these are still preliminary, and will be corrected, and somewhat hidden when I get the fan grill:

BB9F4535-D226-4AB2-B2C8-CC1829CF142F_zps

Probably going to go for the black and green theme, as you can see from the little altering I did to the motherboard. Gonna clean up the lines a bit, but not too bad for a start :)

Stay tuned :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Throwing up a couple of pictures to show the idea going forward :) Has been little work lately, but thats Christmastime for you :P

Anyways, here is the current status:

Will get some more work done soon enough, like shaving of the edges inside the grill so that the front looks more clean. The current screws are temporary as well :)

More coming soon enough :)

A little update on the project, going a bit slow during the holidays :P

Got some memory, and man, these are really good looking:

497A3046-5230-424E-A203-41B186B7E1DD_zps

8B260053-C698-46DF-943E-ACCD182058B7_zps

And perhaps more interesting, did a bit of mounting of all the components:

869863D1-3F72-4019-8F65-54A929804D5B_zps

A0F5A6B3-FA8E-48FA-8238-5D2B799D964F_zps

45BD0F68-2014-4FF6-AEE1-13BCEC4E477B_zps

09F002A0-D721-4D59-8989-BE85F7D66AEC_zps

Still alot of work left, the old IO on the right of the fans on the front, will be replaced with switches for the lighting inside, as I am planning to have both regular white lights in addition to UV-lights. Wires in the pictures have not been organized in any way, so it will look alot cleaner when done, and the fittings for the tubing that you see in the pictures was just something I had lying around from a previous build, probably just going to be black ones from EK on the final build.

Let me know what you think so far :)
