Do your thumbnails look awful as hell? Save the picture as a PNG! [A shitty thumbnail guide]

PlayStation 2

Do your thumbnails often look like https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2e0Ew1-UA-tVEo2V19XX1NtQ0k/view ?

The way IP.Board renders JPEG thumbnails is that it compresses it to some pretty awful quality.

Saving the image as a PNG may not increase the final image quality, but actually doesn't produce JPEG artifacts in the thumbnail.

You can use any program to save the image as a PNG. I just used GIMP for this example.

Voila! It now looks better as a thumbnail!

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

I never use jpg anymore, only png.

Little tip: if you file is too big for upload when you made it in png: apply a little bit of compression. Even as small as 1 compression (out of 10) makes the picture a lot smaller!

Paint.net is a good alternative

Not really, unless your really new to this stuff, then otherwise I agree.

Saving as a PNG is definitely the way to go.

My procrastination is the bane of my existence.

I make games and stuff in my spare time.

actually this is a problem with firefox. If you are talking about them resizing without aliasing

edit

oh you mean aritifacting. Yea this forum compresses jpegs

a few ipboard avatar tips btw-

It does nothing to gifs, viewing them directly gives you full uploaded size if you are unsure what's in someone's avatar. As a result of also doing nothing to smooth them out when resizing, looks terrible on firefox.

To avoid this, make your gif 94x94 or 188x188 if it bothers you

It resizes regular pics though.

If you are unsure what's in someone's regular avatar or you want the pic
