hello! i want to make a pi cluster. what's the easiest way to do that? thanks!

why?

They are super low power so they can't do much of anything. If you really do want to do it anyways, I recommend watching TinkerNut's tutorials.

well it WOULD be useful in making a botnet

ive alwayse wanted to make a RPI cluster

but i dont have the moneys or the time

kek

also if you are making one BIG TIP is to make a sd card and then copy and paste it onto every single SD card so u dont have to constantly install and wait

OFF TOPIC: I suggest every poll from now on to have "**CK EA" option instead of "Other"

but say 6 2s at a base clock at 900 mhz.

900 mhz * 6 = 54 ghz

Ya, about that big tip tho, you still need to manually edit and assign hostnames and IPs to each PI after you copy the SD cards. But really, you would need a lot of them to create a botnet, like 3 or 4 won't do much, you'd probably need something like 20+ I'd guess, but I don't know for sure. I did a cluster with just 2 before.

I am searching around on how to make a cluster with normal PCs and from the looks of it Pi 2s would make a nice little farm. Though lack of info makes it hard to do things

Ya, about that big tip tho, you still need to manually edit and assign hostnames and IPs to each PI after you copy the SD cards. But really, you would need a lot of them to create a botnet, like 3 or 4 won't do much, you'd probably need something like 20+ I'd guess, but I don't know for sure. I did a cluster with just 2 before.

Ghz isn't the only thing that matters, think of the amount of RAM you would have. Sure, the Pi 2 B has 1gb of ram each, so 6gb of ram. 6 Raspberry pi 2 B would be like $240 if they still cost $40 each. So that's not exactly that cost effective when you could build a better PC for $300-350 and a PC has more capabilities than 6 raspberry pis. I wouldn't buy a bunch and do it. If you really want to do it, do what I did and buy like 2 or 3 and just mess around with it. Keep in mind you also need an ethernet switch and a USB hub to power them. As far as I know it's still a PITA to use a wireless dongle with cluster computing, I know it added more steps for sure, but it may have gotten easier.

Mhz would be .xxx Ghz would be y.xx so .900 x 6 would be 5.4Ghz and even then as someone else had said, it's not the same as having one beefy 5.4ghz processor, it's not even close to the performance of a single processor.

They all have to communicate with eachother some how, it's a bunch of separate mini-computers working together, there's going to be more latency and such with them than there would with just a single powerful computer.

Consider that graphics cards usually have "cores" clocked in around the 1 GHz range, but a CPU core at that same speed would be much more powerful.  There is a lot more to processor performance than clock speed.  Read up on IPC and other terms like that.

i went to all of my neighbors houses with wifi that is unprotected and i plugged my RPi's near their homes and created my own botnet

out of my own computers

so it wasnt illegial

every pi has a 100meg per second max cap for wifi so if i use 10 RPi's with 100mbps on each it will equal a 10gbps upload link

Actually it is illegal to connect to any wifi network you do not A ) own or B ) have permission to use, even if it is unsecured.
