Mac or PC for school?

Sorry, but this is plain retarded statement...

If an establishment uses Macs they should make sure that whatever they use is cross platform or provide facilities equipped with all the hardware and software needed.

Not how it works in the real world matey. If your equiptment isn't compatible, suck it up because you won't be able to do what's required.

It's your fault because you bought the wrong thing, thus wasting your money.

Just finished university, so I kind of know how a good one should work. If a course does not state you'll need one, you shouldn't be forced to buy one.

I've had access to standard, shit library computers, available almost 24/7, followed by better, computing-only labs with all specialist software, weekdays till 8, followed by game dev dedicated machines specifically for my course, again, weekdays till 8.

That's exactly how it works in real world, "matey".

Read the title of the topic. It's about school not work, and you tend to have a choice about both anyway.

For your courses, for your university, for your town in your country.

Someone is salty as fuck, and the topic look far from answered to me.

And yes, speaking from my experience, something like university should reflect the investment, which by the way,

I made on my own, because that's how it works in UK, can I ask where are you from for an informed contrast?

And lastly, I never said that something is not good or that I don't like something.

All I've said is that you shouldn't be forced to a commercial lockdown by a school of all things, and gave you a simple example of how it is solved here.

Learn to read, both of you.

Hi everyone,

So I bought a used 2010 Macbook pro 15" 2.4GHZ 4GB 320GB

Have already ordered the 8GB ram kit and will be getting a 1TB SSD drive too.

I must thank everyone for the replies, I honestly thought after reading everyone's reviews here & on the Macrumor board (Many members there had already done there degrees) and gave very detailed insight working at design firms.

I had great replies here too  ;)

Having the option running Windows and learning a new OS was a WIN/WIN, Theft was a big concern buying new. I will be going to school in the UK or State side Georgia/Florida "alone" and having a $3k computer would be awful getting stolen. So buying used was my best option

I'm finishing my Law degree in the UK and will decide on what design school's over there might help me, looking at everything its 3 years usually but haven't found web development either.

honestly i know it will be Florida or Georgia just need 2 year degrees to learn both subjects.

Did you even read the topic, or just the title?

Point is, PCMasterRace has no place in professional industries

CAD & CAM (which is what my college specialised in) uses PCs. So does TFL, we asked them when some of their engineers came in as a part of our coursework.

All the college PCs have 16GB RAM and Intel Core i7s (Don't know the specific model number as control panel is blocked obviously). Don't know the brand or model number of the GPUs they use.

TL;DR the engineering & CAD CAM industry has a need for blazing fast PCs, based on my experiences so far.

For web design, I use an online open source IDE called Codiad, which means I couldn't give a bull's faeces about what OS my future job may use, since I'd only use the web browser anyway.

The only differences between Mac and PC is that with a PC you can custom build your rig and its a hell of a lot cheaper than a Mac, with a Mac its easier to use and it just works but at the cost of being a bombshell on your wallet, so I would suggest you think about what you want/need and not making a quick and dirty decision, but with a PC you can do everything that you can on a Mac and vice versa so yeah...

My vote would be PC :) but its you're decision

Dear all,

Does anyone know good software for antivirus with or without internet security for macbook? I know some mac users would discourage or say there is no need, etc etc due to mac not getting virus. Well, as far as i know its not true. Mac can get infected too..... just the possibility is less than pc.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

Macs get malware just as much as PCs. The problem is, there is not great option for antivirus on mac at the moment.

Just be safe on the internet and you'll be fine.

^This is pretty much the answer. Macs have great apps for production and house great build quality. But there are many issues with Macs big and little.

I would personally go with PC.

This forum also tends to be biased (no offence, it's the truth. Half of you guys are enthusiasts myself included) so you'll also get "PC" as many answers.

You should pick whatever is best for YOU, not us.

This is like asking if you would want us to decide whether you should wear shorts or jeans.

buy whatever u can afford.  since you have access to mac at school then you are ok.  you are entering a field where some offices run mac and some pcs. most i know run both. so its just best to get really familiar with both. more tools in the toolbelt can never hurt.

To everyone saying the topic is complete, why does the topic need a lock?

I think it's a great topic for people looking to attend school in the Design realm with what computer is mostly used Mac or PC. we haven't even touched on people in the fashion industry or 3d design/animation.

Using a Mac I've found a learning curve and little things using my drawing tablet from windows.

So what was your major Computer science? having a difficult time finding web development classes in the uk.

https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/, I've done Computer Games. They do have computer science, animation and visualization (aka computer graphics), and a few more around computers and coding, but I'm not sure if any of them focus strictly on web development. I had a module about web in year one that went through html, css and js, but nothing too complicated.
