Fan Help!

So I'm getting 2 Corsair SP120s to replace the stock fans on my H100i

Which ones should I choose for the best ceiling rad exhaust fan?

(I plan to connect them to an NZXT touchscreen fan controller & MSI Z97-G45 mobo for software temps too if possible)

  • AF120 Performance
  • AF120 Quiet
  • SP120 PWM Performance
  • SP120 PWM Quiet
  • SP120 Performance
  • SP120 Quiet

Here's the Amazon link for the specs of each choice:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00C249QNE

(Also: Does PWM matter?)

My fan knowledge is still a bit limited so any help is greatly appreciated.

Edit:

All fans for Enthoo Luxe build:

-2 front intakes                              (Noctua NF-S12A x2)

-2 rad ceiling exhausts                 (Corsair SP120 x2)

-1 front low rpm ceiling exhaust (Luxe Stock 140 x1) moved forward to make room for the H100i Rad

-1 rear exhaust                               (Luxe Stock 140 x1)

I realise that seems like a lot of negative pressure,

but I'll be keeping the extra front ceiling fan at the lowest rpm if I do end up keeping it up there.

May even test it out on the bottom behind the HDD cage as a low rpm intake.

So 2/2.5 intakes 3/3.5 exhausts.

RAM Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x8GB - CPU Cooler Corsair H100i & AC MX-4 Thermal - HDD WD 1TB Blue - SSD Samsung 250GB

does your MB support PWM?

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

The H100i comes with SP120L's--basically same as SP120 PE's.

PWM is just a method of controlling the fan.

Why are you replacing the fans?

I have absolutely no idea. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130771

That's the most I could find on it, nothing about PWM as far as I know though.

I'm still mid-build and haven't purchased the mobo yet. The Enthoo Luxe Pro does have a built-in x5+ PWM-but-not-PWM fan hub..

but I'm not knowledgeable in that area at all lol.

Oh man, I had no idea. I just heard from a friend that I should probably replace them,

and after watching a few videos apparently the stock fans get a little loud over a short time.

Also saw in one of Linus' videos he recommended it too. You think it's worth it?

+ Thanks for that video! I'm just getting a bit confused with PWM and stuff,

mobo connection/luxe hub PWM connection/nzxt sentry touch control connection, 3/4 pin..

Don't know where my head is

'Too loud' is subjective. Are they too loud for you?

Well, I'm not really too bothered by simple fan noise while gaming and stuff, but I produce and mix a lot of cpu heavy music,

so I just want to be prepared with an ideal set of backup fans in case they do get noisy after a few months of use.

Can never be too safe

In that case, just don't get new fans for now. If they currently aren't too loud for you, that shouldn't change unless your preferences do.

In any case, changing the stock fans for SP120s tends to be more of an aesthetic improvement since you are getting a very similar fan. I see you have Noctuas, NF-F12s or NF-P12s are better options. Gentle Typhoons are great, EK Vardars are great, Fractal Design Venturis are great, Phanteks PH-F120MP are great, there are many rad fans that are better than SP120s, basically that was my point :P

Thanks for the suggestions man! I've come across the Typhoons before and they're pretty nice. I'll have to have to list the lot and have a comparison later on.

Did some research and the SP120s are indeed quite similar to the stock H100i fans, if anything SP120s are a little worse! (from what I've read anyway lol)

And to be honest I am a weakling for aesthetics, but a lot of those mentioned look sweet anyway. Thanks again dude!

Sure thing man. Yeah, they are basically slower RPM versions with colored rings and rubber corners, but pretty much the same fan. EK Vardars are being released in all black and all white, i think they look pretty good. The Venturis are nice too, gentle typhoons...they have almost a legendary status, like noctuas. My setup is a corsair H105 with  Phanteks PH-F120MP pushing and silverstone SP121s pulling (they are great focusing airflow) and it works for me, gives me good airflow at low RPMs and very good CPU cooling.
