Asus Sabertooth X99 Mosfet block

the pokemon kid

Hey guys,

Well I am planning to get the Asus Sabertooth X99 for my latest PC upgrades, however... I want to cool the mosfets on the motherboard. Only snag is that the thermal armour is in the way...

I dont mind too much on cutting into the plastic thermal armour but does anyone who owns the board know how big the gap is on the Mosfets! (Need to know if it is big enough for a EK mosfet heatstink between the RAM slots).

I love the rest of the thermal armour! It looks beyond sick, so there is no chance in swaying me towards a Asus X99 deluxe. Plus the fact I currently own the Z87 Asus sabertooth board!

EK motherboard waterblocks are made specifically for each motherboard

they are not compatible with any board

if there is not a "sabertooth x99" block then you cannot watercool it with a block from another board

Well, from what I can tell. The Asus sabertooths mosfets are the same design as the deluxe's

You see how the caps are space differently?

Its stuff like that which forces EK to make a separate block for each motherboard.

If a block is compatible with more than one board, it would SAY SO in the compatibility list.

So if its not in the compatibility list, it does not fit.

Now the X99 sabertooth is a pretty recent release so they may not have updated their compatibility list yet

before purchasing, you should contact them and ask if it will work, because it looks like it should

Well it isn't on the compatability list, but I think that might just be that no one has been stupid enough to try... yet... Their mosfet block is sold as : "EK-MOSFET ASUS X99 is a water block for water cooling of the power regulation (VRM / MOSFETs) module on ASUS X99 series motherboards"

However, the Rampage V extreme is also not on the list but overclockers have got a MB for sale with it on it... I will drop EK an email to see if they might support me in my endeavour, or just to find out if I wasn't the first...

I guess you can always return it if it doesnt fit...

If it does work, I can title it as "worlds first" :D No stealing my idea now!

I wont do any cutting to the thermal amour until I know it 100% fits and the motherboard still works!

Hello,

this is my first post here. I've just saw this thread and want to say that no, EK mosfet block doesnt fit.

But there is big chance that Watercool block will work here, I will know it for sure soon  :)

Unfortunately, I have been told by EK it doesn't. They use ever so slightly different mosfets and if you were to attach them you would actually crush them slightly because they are ever so slightly taller...

The big advantage (and perhaps the only Lol) of EK block was it's height 1.5 cm, which left more than 1 cm space between block and armor.

Now Heatkiller has 2 cm height and it will be much more difficult to decide what to do with fittings and armor.
