Is G Sync really necessary with 144Hz ?

IhazHedont

Hi,

I wanna see with you guys if G Sync is/isn't useless with 144Hz.

As we know, tearing appears when the FPS delivered by your GPU is superior to the monitor refresh rate.

But, in the case you have a 144Hz monitor, you need to hit, at least, 144FPS to create tearing, right ?

Therefore, what's the purpose of G Sync ? Do you still feel the stutter caused by the FPS variation with a 144Hz monitor ? It would be the only purpose of it in this configuration ?

Thanks.

Not all games run at 144hz, some AAA titles you might be running at 60fps, and if you dip below, you will get stuttering

Also if you are running at 144hz and suddenly experience a spike or a drop, you can get tearing and stuttering

G Sync is not only about tearing, its about keeping the experiance consistant, no matter whats happening to your frame rate, , example if you game is going up and down between 40 and 140, G sync will keep it smootha nd seamless, and it wont speed up and slow down etc

I believe G Sync doesn't require V Sync, nor induces any input lag ?

I believe monitor is as important as the power supply. It's not like chosing a mice or a keyboard imo =)

G sync turns off gynsc unless you drop below like 30fps then it turns vsync on

Monitor for me is the most important part of my PC so worth the investment

You always will get tearing OR stutters. On ALL monitors in existance, regardless of fps or anything else.

The only exception is to have a working freesync or gsync setup.

And freesync is slightly defective, still needs some work.

Even @60FPS on a 144Hz ? Strange, how is it possible ?

Thanks for the inputs guys.

One question.  Do you think that choosing a power supply is important?  Some people do.  If you don't, I'm gonna fight you, I love my perphs.

Currently roaming the forums in boredom

I like mice and keyboards and the sort

Yes I do, this is the most important part imo. You can have the greatest brain ever, if you don't have a decent heart to make it functionnal, then it's useless.

high refresh monitors are like the only time g sync makes sense.

60hz monitors don't need g sync as you can just slap on v sync and get a card capable of hitting 60fps consistently.

144hz is a challenge for any gpu so you'll always be dipping below it. so g sync will give a smooth experience without tearing no matter what the fps you're getting.

I just got a Acer XB270HU and I can't not even see the difference between G-sync on and off. Guess I'm a peasant  :(

Also ULMB sucks, it messes up with the brightness and colours.

Open your eyes and break your chains. Console peasantry is just a state of mind.

I guess the only difference is when you have variable FPS.
