What HDD should I get

WhatComesAround
Go to solution Solved by Jarsky,

My feedback is that video editing you're going to run out of space extremely quickly with a single 1TB drive.

At peak, my 2160p60fps gaming footage I can take up 20GB/5 minutes of recorded video.

I can quite easily use up 100-200GB space for uncompressed footage for a project.

That doesnt include the 40GB for Windows, all your apps, and the games which can be as large as 50-60GB/each.

Also keep in mind, you might want a back up solution if you're serious about your video editing.

I'd be saving some coin until you can get a 3-4TB drive.

What I am going to be doing

Gaming

Video Editing

How much I would need

1-2 TB

Feel free to judge

Aim

Fast read/write speeds

Durability

Bang for the buck

System if it will help you in any way

i3

gtx 980 (Before anyone asks, I am slowly building my dream pc, so I decided to get the gpu first so at least I can game for now)

4bg of ram

650W psu

1TB either get WD Blue or Seagate Barracuda

2TB get Seagate Barracuda

WD Black is a waste of money and Green is sloooow.

Bang for the buck Seagate cannot be beaten. Especially in 2TB category.

Hey there,

For good performance, durability and long warranty I would also recommend to check out WD Black drives. They are designed for better than average performance under heavier loads, better multitasking handling, sustains harsher environments and has a 5 year limited warranty. Here's a link with more info: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=dtYYvO

Another more inexpensive option (limited to 1TB) would be WD Blue. It is designed for everyday computing, but is fast enough for some demanding applications. Here's a link to that too: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=tqiYTT

Ideally you would want to have your OS, editing programs and more demanding games on a SSD for much faster loading times and gneral better and snappier performance and keep everything else on the HDD.

If this helped you, like and choose it as best answer - you might help someone else with the same issue. ^_^
