120mm or 140mm

So, my sleeper build runs like a champ. However, it needs more air. Playing BIT.Trip Runner 2 at 4K caused it to get a little toasty in that tiny Compaq case. There are only two sources of flow for that thing: A rear 92mm fan (had it set as exhaust, gonna try intake if it isn't too much louder), and then the PSU fan. So... Yeah.

 

Basically, I'm wondering which size I should get if I mod the sidepanel. I'm looking for high flow while also being as quiet as possible. I can imagine I'll be buying some LNA's to run them at 7v (this mobo runs all but the CPU fan at 12v), so keep that in mind. I really don't want to pay more than $12 USD a fan, since there will be two of them.

If you don't mind the looks a Noctua NF-A14 would be great

If the looks matter I would choose Noiseblocker PK3

Something tells me that the case will bottleneck any new fan, cant you mod it for better airflow.

Yeah... I was gonna put two on the side panel...

 

if you can fit one, why not a 200mm? bigger is better when it comes to quietness.

I already have grilles somewhere for either 2x 120mm or 2x 140mm fans (can't remember which).

Unless you're particularly attached to your current case, I'd buy a new one. You can pick up something like a Cooler Master Elite 342, a Fractal Design Core 1000 or a Zalman Z1 for very little money, and they'll all come with an included front 120mm fan. Don't expect much from a €25-equivalent case, but they will all have better airflow characteristics than what you're stuck with at the moment, so chances are you'll get more gratifying results with the single front 120mm fan in one of those cases than with two 120mm or 140mm fans placed at non-ideal locations in your current case.

They're ideal... They blow fresh air right into the GPU and CPU heatsinks... And I've already modded the case a bit, and I'm not letting that go to waste.

My vote: Put the fans in the front. I've had 'direct airflow from the side' and now that I have a front cooling case my temps are lower. I don't know the fizzicks well enough to explain why, but it just works better in my case; your mileage may vary. Anyway, two 5.25" drive bays, assuming you aren't using them, will be vertically tall enough to accommodate a 140mm fan (and wide enough as well). You'd need to create your own bracket to hold the fan in there, but it would offer a relatively low difficulty front air intake. If you can find someone (like me) who has mesh covered 5.25" drive bay covers then you can also filter the air while having the slots covered (though, mine are black. I'm guessing your case is some flavor of white-ish).

Few issues (I did look at the 5.25" fan things):

1. My optical drive takes up one slot

2. My cables take up the rest

3. Not enough room for fans to breathe in the front

4. Stuff for front panel in the way

5. Cables for 480 in the way

6. Ass of 480 in the way.

 

I was thinking about putting a fan in the front corner, but I'm not too sure how that'd work since it would probably try to go out the front panel.
