Take it apart and replace the thermal paste. Acer doesn't know anything about thermals as far as I have been able to see.

Check your laptop's fan?

Edit: Make sure it's running.

as far as i can tell laptops getting hot are normal. providing the idle temperature is below 70 you should be fine. laptops just run hotter in herently just don let them get above 100(most shutdown at that point).

But 70C with nothing running is weird, there must be something.....

Had the same problem. Compressed air trough every in and outtake, and temps dropped more than 15 degrees Celcius. Check my status.

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

Either the heatsink isn't seated properly, the paste dried out or the fan broke.

"The fan broke" that's what I'm thinking, but heatsink is another possibility.

i'll try this, don't have any thermal paste now tough so i'll have to order something. any paste in particular you could recommend?

the fan seems to be fine. it's dust free and moves a good amount of air as far as i can tell :( thanks for the suggestion tough.

the fan is fine. but i'll see about the thermal paste, havn't checked that yet! thanks for the suggestion!

  1. Get Noctua NT-H1 (or what it was called again), IC Diamond 7 Carat, or Arctic MX-5.

Those names are about right :P

They are famous, and famous equals good in the Thermal Paste business.

  2. Yes, only helps against dust. But dust is a killer, and Linus can definitely agree. Unless you are an gigantic watercooler (that sounded like an offence), you really need to keep the dust levels low.

MX-2 is good for the money, MX-4 and NT-H1 (or NH-T1, whatever order it's in) are my faves, but are not necessary by any means.
