Racing in a Bugatti Veyron

Hi All,

Just started folding yesterday with my FX-6300 and GTX 750 Ti.

For some reason I'm getting extremely sub-par performance with my GPU. Around 1000 PPD.

Running the latest client and latest NVIDIA drivers.

Anyone know of any problems with this card? Or do I need to let it fold for longer to get an accurate reading (left it going for about 10 mins before stopping it)

have you done 10 wu's yet? you don't get a bonus ppd til you do 10 wu 1st, i think.

The card is pretty low horsepower.

not that low though...I get around 8500 PPD with my non-overclocked G3258

It's running at a lower PPD than my CPU!

Something isn't right, because my 650ti scores over 20K PPD

Well, for starters let it fold for longer and see what happens.

You have barely even started on the wu.

I'd forgotten that it sometimes takes a while for GPU's to 'speed up'.

@BrettMW , leave it running for half an hour, and if the PPD isn't higher there is something wrong with F@H on your computer or your 750ti.

Ok I left it running for a while and now it hits 14k PPD.

Perhaps it will go up if I leave it longer.

Although interestingly the 750 Ti isn't much better (and actually scored lower overall on this review) than the 650 Ti. http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-750-Ti-vs-GeForce-GTX-650-Ti Although it has better FLOPS which I guess is what matters here.

That's one of the reasons I recommend a 650ti alongside a 750ti-since both have versions that are powered purely by the PCIe slot their efficiency is pretty close.

My 750Ti scores over 30000 PPD with or without overclok. I think is that because of passkey giving me more points but I'm not sure.

Confirming 14kPPD for 750Ti.

Whats you're driver version?

My 750 TI just now shows an Estimated PPD of 55k but an hour ago it was 38k so it seem to vary a lot.

I used to fold on 3 GTX 750TIs and their PPD was all over the place depending on the work unit type. With a core 17 you could see upwards of 65K PPD, a core 15 would get around 30K PPD, and with a core 18 you would scrape the bottom achieving a disappointing 20K PPD. Always wait until after you complete 1% of a unit so it can get up to full speed and the PPD can level out. If you are still having issues make sure you have at least one cpu core NOT folding. GPUs need one core/thread free each in order to run properly.

Please rename the title to "Racing in a Ford Pinto"

Your point being? the 750ti is a decent gpu With the efficiency

to go With it. There is every reason to fold With it, as opposed

to not  folding.

It was a joke... theres absolutely nothing wrong with folding with it

But it doesn't have the horsepower say an R9 280/280x does, that you could get for $30 more

Yes it uses more electricity but not enough to care about

It clearly is enough to care about though, the 750ti is Powered by the pcie

slot alone. What i am getting at here is this. The power/performance ratio

definitely matters. As long as you have a gpu With decent efficiency, it's

worthwhile to fold With it even if that single gpu doesn't boast amazing

performance on its own, it all adds up in the end. Granted it's not idiotic

and you are barely making the deadlines, which a 750ti shouldn't have

any problems With.

From a value standpoint you might be onto something though :P

Just throwing it out, coud the GPU be thermal throttling somehow?

Sorry :) My intention wasn't to argue

But you have a very valid point, it would especially be useful in older systems that cant necessarily support beefier gpu's and power draw

But yes, I was just thinking it was funny to buy a 750ti to fold :P Similar to buying a lemon to race, it'll race, just wouldn't be your best option

Joining the folding team btw

Nice, welcome to the team!, this is a forum, an information portal.

This is the perfect place to have a friendly discussion. Wasn't my

intention if i came across as too forward or pushy, which i might

have been, tad bit :P

Last time i checked i think the ppd/$ ratio with the 750ti was pretty

ok.
