Microsoft Partners With Xiaomi To Test Windows 10 On Mi4 Smartphones

Besides announcing the availability of Windows 10 in summer and their free upgrade plan ( http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/330142-windows-10-to-launch-this-summer-d/), Microsoft also announced today that they will have a new program with Xiaomi, to test Windows 10 on the Xiaomi Mi 4.

“Through a new program with Xiaomi, one of the top smartphone distributors in the world, a select group of Xiaomi Mi 4 power users will be invited to help test Windows 10 and contribute to its future release later this year,” Terry Myerson, Microsoft’s executive vice president for operating systems, said in the post. “These power users will have the opportunity to download the Windows 10 Technical Preview – installing it and providing their feedback to Microsoft.”

This is Xiaomi's first attempt of OS other than Android, and Microsoft's first attempt of testing Windows 10 on mobile devices from other manufacturers. (Pls feel free to correct me if i'm wrong). Xiaomi haven't announce any plans of releasing Mi 4, or any new devices with Windows 10, and it is too early to tell how this would affect the sales of Mi 4, but I think this may come as a precursor to Windows-based Xiaomi phones in the future. The only complaint I have on this is why the test would only carried out on the Mi 4, but not the Mi Note?

I don't think this program has anything to do with piracy. I think they do this to expand user base, let more people try their new OS.

This seems pretty nice, but wont that kill the 2in1 or those convertibles ?? as a lot of people just buy them to browse and normal use.

Why not? Because of the spyware issue?

Their qc is one of the best among Chinese handset manufacturer....

Although I don't like the look of their Android skin, those devices seems to look good~~

Xiaomi does offer good hardware specs at "oneplus" range prices and even cheaper, yet they suffer from the same availability issues. Hopefully with MS money to back them up we could get some of those handsets here...assuming windows 10 mobile is somewhat improved from 8 though.
