Intel SSD 730 vs 2 WD velociraptor

Jabberwookie

so I picked up a Intel SSD 730 480mb for 200 on sale

I already have 2 WD Vraptors in raid 0 totaling 1tb on and my old trusty WD blue 500 for back up stuff and redundant storage

did I waste my money?

or was that worth it?

check profile for system

edit-fixing I misread. give me a moment

How large was the intel 730? It's a really solid SSD.

I'm a little confused. What is you question? What are you asking if you wasted money on?

the SSD will have lower access latency and faster random reads and writes, so no you didn't.

I want a raptor X for my system, simply because it's the only hdd I know of with a window.

No, just put the OS on the SSD and your programs on the RAID. HDDs suffer when you have to make a whole bunch of writes/reads to different spots on the disk even if they are in RAID. The SSD can handle the OS and the HDDs will be able to load your program data with no interruptions from having to go visit background stuff Windows would be doing.

why do you say that?

Well an SSd will be quieter than two 10k drives.

heeeeey :(

but why do you say that?

they are low capacity, loud, power hungry, dont have great speeds, sub-par reliability, high price, outdated, etc...

its technology from 8 years ago :P
