Is quad SLI worth it?

If i do get sponsored at the school event for university fees and PC components (the companies that sponsor students have BIG money), i was thinking about quad 980s and a 5960X for the rig that will last me 5 years, Will this config last me 5 years for  games high settings at 1440p and is quad SLI worth it?

Current Rig:   CPU: AMD 1950X @4Ghz. Cooler: Enermax Liqtech TR4 360. Motherboard:Asus Zenith Extreme. RAM: 8GB Crucial DDR4 3666. GPU: Reference GTX 970  SSD: 250GB Samsung 970 EVO.  HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 2TB. Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro. PSU: Corsair RM1000X. OS: Windows 10 Pro UEFI mode  (installed on SSD)

Peripherals:  Display: Acer XB272 1080p 240Hz G Sync Keyboard: Corsair K95 RGB Brown Mouse: Logitech G502 RGB Headhet: Roccat XTD 5.1 analogue

Daily Devices:Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact and 128GB iPad Pro

No, four-way sli isn't worth it.

 

In most games it will perform the same as three-way, which still isn't worth it. 

 

Plus a 5960x isn't worth it either.

Just because you have money doesn't mean you have to throw it out of the window, 980 SLI and you are good to go, 4x SLI is just stupid

Does not give you 4x the power, maybe in two special cases. It's an absolute waste of cash.

I would go for it, if scaling etc gets better then it should kick butt! for now buy 4 and just use 2 or one until compatibility gets better!

But how long will it last at 1440p?

Well quad sli 980s are the fastest gpu solutions in the planet. Would they be worth it? Not really. Scaling would be a problem also not to mention that some games dont even support sli. Also in most games you wouldn't notice a difference between 4 and 3 way sli. Also not to mention added heat and power consumption. They would probably last you 5 years at that resolution but its a stupid waste of money imo.

No, sponsor me with university fees and give me money for a new rig which i will use for university

In gaming, quad SLi is a huge waste, except for bragging rights.
