4k videos on youtube?

Question.. Whenever I watch 4k videos on youtube it basically won't work, it just starts "stuttering" and struggles to load each frame. This renders it unwatchable. I'm using firefox, and have a 6 mbs upload 15 mbs download.

Does everybody have this issue? If not what would be the likely bottleneck on my system?

It would be nice to know some people can watch 4k content on a 4k monitor on youtube with no issues?

I figure if not this would be a youtube problem.

I think it has to do with flash player I've been having this problem especially on google chrome since a long time not all videos but some in 4k, firefox doesn't seem to have this problem strangely though. This is of course factoring in your internet connection is fast enough and your computer to have a sufficiently powerful processor.

If anyone has a fix I'd love to know after such a long time.

CPU matters somewhat to a point, but an i3 could play flash video content at 4K without issue I would assume so more than likely, the GPU would be the bottleneck unless your internet sucked.

Not yet, but actually will be ordering one tonight. Even though I don't have 4k the picture look wayyy better than 1080 at least on the "freezed" frames. My internet averages about 6 up and 15 down.

I get this and i have 2x powerhouse computers and 50mb fiber optic internet. The issue appears to be on YouTube's end. I have monitored CPU and GPU usage while streaming 4K video and none of it is maxed out. Having said that, i have found that if you download the video using a online youtube downloader, the video is far more stable. I use this one as it gives you the option to convert to MP4 before downloading: http://www.clipconverter.cc/

dude i have tried 4k clips on youtube i have no problem at all, tried on chrome, firefox, safari and no stuttering, i do have 100mb/s up and down, but i have similar problem on my mac (let the hate on mac start) from school when watch 4k vids and playing games on a another monitor, if it still stuttering then it is flash player, bad internet or pc spc is not good enough.

No way you're gonna get 4k to stream smoothly at 15MBps . Download it.

I have a 24mbps connection, And 1080p will only stream in ideal ircumstances (no one else using the Internet) so I tend to stick to 720p.

As i said, i still get stuttering. I get 450mbps over wifi connection and Youtube readout shows 61053kbps bandwidth. I think it also has alot to do with the popularity of the video. Youtube keeps the video on a local server located near to upload location. If the video becomes popular, it is then pushed out to more youtube servers internationally. I remember reading an article on it a while back about why Youtube speeds were inconsistent across the world. The biggest issue for me is the level of compression. While a 4K demo reel looks great, they are often shot using a colour range that compresses well or doesn't artifact as badly. But Gameplay videos for example look awful. Nothing like native look of 4K gaming.

The Flash player that YouTube has generally seems to have issues with 4k content (and 1440p too), especially when I resize the player to fill the page using a plugin.

The HTLM5 player has no such issues so I tend to use the same plugin to FORCE the HTLM5 player of YouTube, there was a slight bug in the plugin which made the video content of the HTLM5 player not resize, but nothing a programmer like me couldn't handle :)

I use a seperate plugin to give me a "dark/night" theme.

Strange, what hardware are you using?

(Also, is it in hardware mode, meaning does it use your graphics chip?)

1st PC is 8core fx8350 and Xfire R9 290s. The second pc is an Intel core i5 4670 and a GTX 980. I have tried hardware acceleration on and off. It makes little to no difference. I also tend to find I get more glitches and crashes with plug ins with hardware acceleration turned on.

I have a 4k 60hz monitor. Asus PB287Q. I'm pretty sure it's not the monitor as games play at 4k great.

Firefox or Google Chrome?

Because Google Chrome works fine with me, even on a laptop with i5 2410m... and intel HD :P

(Admitted, it scales the 4k down, which to me would be heavier than showing it at native resulution)

I have a similar issue where I have good speeds and some older but decent hardware but it keeps studdering whenever it play anything greater than 1440p with Flash and HTML specifically on google chrome. On certain videos there are no problems while others have and error on the player where the page refreshes and plays the studdering when >1440p. Firefox however doesn't seem to have any problem even with the same content at any resolution.

Well games I've played that run well are the Arkham games, most racing games such as grid Autosport, bio shock infinite is just stunning and runs very well. Battlefield 3/4, call of duty run smoothly. Titanfall looks great. Sim city games are immensely detailed. Tbh with Xfire 290s, most good PC ports or native pc games run well at 60fps. However even the worst ported games usually run at 30-40fps. It's always worth noting you really don't need antialiasing.

that's a respectable list. Try any mmorpgs? I am into those a lot so I would like to get a rough idea.
