GTX compatibility

Right now I have an Asus z87-pro motherboard with a 4th gen core i7.

 

My question

Is a GTX 970 compatible with my setup?

 

If it really maters I'm looking at evga.

I have a 1000 watt power supply.

1000W is overkill.  What GPU did you have before, an R9 295X2?
